This is what it’s like to live in California

Here’s what the skies look like in Huntington Beach, and this takes place everywhere

Here are just a few active publicly available cloud seeding programs spraying the skies in California right now

- Santa Barbara County Precipitation Enhancement Program (operated by Santa Barbara County Water Agency): Funded by local water agency budgets and ratepayers; specific annual amounts not publicly detailed (long-running since 1981).

- Upper American River Basin Weather Modification Program (operated by Sacramento Municipal Utility District - SMUD): Funded by utility rates/hydropower revenues; estimated in the range of hundreds of thousands annually (ongoing since 1969).

- Turlock/Modesto Irrigation Districts Cloud Seeding Program (TID/MID joint program in San Joaquin/Central Valley): Funded by irrigation district assessments and revenues; specific annual costs not detailed but part of ongoing operations since 1990s

- Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Cloud Seeding Programs (targeting watersheds like Mokelumne and Lake Almanor): Funded by utility ratepayers

- San Luis Obispo County Winter Cloud Seeding Program (for Lopez Lake watershed): Funded by county flood control/water district; multi-year contracts, on hold or intermittent based on water conditions

- Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA) Cloud Seeding Program (currently discontinued this year 2025)

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at around 10:55 p.m., Brentwood Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Balfour Road and Foothill Drive for suspicion of DUI. Officers contacted the driver, a male in his 40’s, who was the only occupant in the vehicle.

While speaking to the driver, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, officers located a loaded, high-powered rifle inside the vehicle. When officers attempted to arrest the driver, he physically resisted arrest, refused to follow verbal commands, and ultimately grabbed the high-powered rifle.

An officer-involved shooting occurred in which one officer fired their weapon. Several officers rendered emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived on scene, however, the suspect succumbed to gunshot wounds at the scene.

No officers were seriously injured during this incident.

The investigation remains ongoing and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office is conducting a parallel investigation in accordance with the Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Incident protocol. Body-worn camera and in-car camera footage will eventually be released in accordance with the law.

No additional information is being released at this time.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation, please contact the Brentwood Police Department at (925) 809-7911. Callers may remain anonymous.

Christmas Saved: Aurora Police Release Body-Worn Camera Footage from Fox Valley Mall Grinch Arrest

Aurora, IL – The Aurora Police Department has released body-worn camera footage from a holiday incident that briefly put Christmas cheer on the runβ€”but not for long.

On December 17, 2025, just around 10:15 a.m., Officer Braden Lentini was on a routine foot patrol after receiving a report, from a good Samaritan named Emmet, of the Grinch attempting to make off with presents from Santa’s Christmas tree inside the Fox Valley Mall. Officer Lentini, who was already on foot patrol, quickly spotted the suspect.

Thanks to the quick thinking of Emmet, and some timely assistance from Santa Claus, Officer Lentini was able to track down the Grinch. After a short foot pursuit, the Grinch was taken into custody peacefully and without incident.

No injuries were reported, and the Aurora Police Department can confirm there was no credible threat to public safetyβ€”or to Christmas.

The Grinch has been charged with Theft, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting Arrest & Obstructing a Peace Officer. The Grinch is currently being held at the City of Aurora Detention Center pending a court appearance.

β€œWhile this incident brought some laughs, it also showed how quickly our officers respond and how strong our community is. I’m proud of Officer Lentini and grateful to Emmet for stepping up when it mattered. Most importantly, no one was hurt, and there was no threat to public safetyβ€”or to Christmas.” said Police Chief Matt Thomas.

The Aurora Police Department is releasing the body-worn camera footage to provide transparency and to share a moment of holiday spirit with the community. While the Grinch may have tried to steal Christmas, teamwork, kindness, and a little holiday magic ensured it stayed right where it belongs.
