NEW: The legislation would increase penalties for disarming a law enforcement officer of a firearm if accomplished by force or if the officer is injured.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement in support of the legislation:

“The brave men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line each day to protect us. When someone tries to disarm an officer, it endangers that individual and the safety of everyone they’ve sworn an oath to defend. This legislation strengthens our ability to hold violent offenders fully accountable, and I urge the House to pass this legislative package swiftly.”

The Evansville Police Officer injured in a shooting back in September gave an update.

Officer Sam Taylor was shot by a suspect in the line of duty September 21.

According to the Evansville FOP Lodge #73, Officer Taylor is in good spirits and has been working hard during his recovery.

They say Officer Taylor wants to thank everyone who has given him support, and they say he told them it keeps him motivated.

PD on scene reporting multiple gunshot victims at Lincoln University at the ICC Building. EMS on scene as well with multiple PD and EMS units enroute.

9:17pm - EMS reporting at least 3 victims at this time. Possibly more. PD units from all over the western part of the county enroute.

9:19pm - 1st Alarm EMS Box Alarm dispatched. At this time 12 EMS units dispatched and or on scene

9:22pm - Active shots being heard at this time inside the building.

9:33pm - 4 victims reported now.

9:40pm - Level 2 MCI has been declared. Multiple additional EMS units now dispatched

9:40pm - Now confirmed 5 patients shot. Unknown at this time if any more
