Today, we honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the bravery of the first responders who ran toward danger, many making the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Twenty-four years later, the pain of that day remains etched in our hearts but so does the resilience, unity, and compassion that brought our nation together in its aftermath. We honor the survivors, the families forever changed, and the first responders who still carry the emotional and physical toll of that day.

As peace officers, we are reminded of our solemn duty to protect and serve with integrity, compassion, courage and the values that were so clearly displayed on 9/11.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stands in solemn remembrance of all the heroes of that day and in continued support of the families and communities forever changed.

Let us never forget the strength, unity, and resilience that rose from the ashes of tragedy.

UPDATE: A man is dead after a fleeing Louis Vuitton burglary crew slammed into his car on Michigan Ave. Seven suspects are in custody, five hospitalized.

A crash-and-grab burglary crew fleeing from a break-in at the Louis Vuitton store slammed into another vehicle on the Mag Mile, killing its driver, police said. CPD has also revealed that seven burglars are in custody, including five who were in the vehicle that crashed.

DEVELOPING: Fairview High School and the Southern Hills Middle School in South Boulder, Colorado are on lockdown, and a shelter-in-place order is in effect for the neighborhood.

The Boulder Police Department is investigating a report of a man with a gun near the school, a BPD spokesperson said.

BREAKING: Multiple historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across the U.S. are on lockdown Thursday after receiving threats.

The following universities were subject to threats Thursday, according to university officials:

Alabama State University
Virginia State University
Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia
Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Florida
Clark Atlanta University

Law enforcement agencies are investigating the threats of each campus. Threats like these have also been made other universities across the nation in the past couple of weeks
