Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy Louis Custodio was critically injured in a head-on motorcycle crash and now faces at least 15 surgeries — his community is rallying to help.

What started as a routine day on the job for Loudoun County Sheriff's deputy Louis Custodio ended with a life-altering motorcycle crash while he was on patrol, his family says.

At approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, Custodio was on patrol when he struck another motorcycle head-on between Hyatt Lane and Morrisonville Road, sending both riders to the hospital with critical injuries.

UPDATE: Three firefighters were injured while responding to a building explosion in Wilmington, North Carolina.

According to officials, a vehicle turned from New Center Dr. onto Bob King Dr. The vehicle hit gas lines and drove off. It caused an explosion at East Carolina Veterinary Medical Center.

Police say that the vehicle and driver were located and the driver had signs of impairment. The driver is now in custody.

After the explosion, three firefighters from the Wilmington Fire Department were injured while fighting the resulting blaze. Two had non-life threating injuries and one firefighter had severe burn injuries on their hands and arms.
