BREAKING: The FBI has begun dispatching about 120 of its agents in overnight shifts to help local law enforcement prevent carjackings and violent crime in Washington, according to two people familiar with the matter, as President Donald Trump threatens a federal takeover of the nation’s capital.

Trump, who plans a news conference at the White House on Monday on this topic, compared the forthcoming action against D.C. crime to his administration’s aggressive crackdown against illegal immigration at the southern border, saying on Sunday that he plans to “immediately clear out the city’s homeless population and take swift action against crime.”

Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Caleb Eisworth passed away Sunday, August 10, at a Baton Rouge hospital.

He was critically injured on June 16, 2025 after police say a Baton Rouge man with a deep hatred for law enforcement intentionally rammed into Eisworth’s police motorcycle along Greenwell Springs Road as the sergeant was heading home from a shift.

BRPD Chief TJ Morse released the following statement:

"It is with profound sadness that I must share that our beloved Motors Officer, Sgt. Caleb Eisworth, died moments ago surrounded by loved ones.

Caleb was an amazing officer and a good man. He spent seven weeks fighting hard to overcome his injuries, but ultimately lost his battle today.

I ask that our community continue to lift the Eisworth family and the men and women of our Baton Rouge Police Department up in prayer."🙏🏻

Multiple agencies responded to assist on I-26 in Orangeburg County after a South Carolina State Trooper was struck while conducting a traffic stop early Sunday, according to several sources. The trooper's identity was confirmed by officials to be Dennis Ricks of Lexington, SC.

The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Aug. 10 near mile marker 166 in Orangeburg County, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office. Ricks was conducting a traffic stop and was struck by a vehicle outside of his marked patrol car, according to officials.

OCSO confirmed it responded to the scene and said Ricks was hospitalized. OCSO also said the driver was arrested for driving under suspension, and that the Lexington County Sheriff's Department is handling the reconstruction of the scene.
