This past weekend in Ithaca, hundreds of athletes competed with heart and determination at the Special Olympics NY Summer Games. The Sheriff’s Office proudly stood alongside law enforcement partners from Cooperstown PD, NYSP, Ithaca PD, and many others as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run—a global initiative dedicated to promoting inclusion and protecting the Flame of Hope.

The opening ceremonies showcased the professionalism and unity of over 20 agencies, while competition on the track brought out strength, speed, and true sportsmanship. The torch now passes to the Central Region as Utica prepares to host the 2026 Summer Games.

We look forward to continuing this tradition of support and inclusion.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Authorities say multiple businesses in a South Los Angeles strip mall were looted and vandalized after a street takeover was reported on Monday at about 3:30 a.m.  in the area of West Adams Boulevard and Western Avenue. 
Video posted to ‘The Citizen’ app showed several drivers performing burnouts, donuts and other stunts at the intersection, holding up traffic for others.
According to police at least one business was burglarized.
