Hong Kong's streets have once again descended into violence as protesters clashed with police who fought back the masses with riot shields, batons and pepper spray. Thousands of demonstrators marched on the border town of Sheung Shui today to rail against Chinese traders, tapping into the recent anger over proposed extradition laws to swell their support. The march began peacefully but it wasn't long before nasty skirmishes broke out when protesters began lobbing hard hats at officers who retaliated by clobbering the demonstrators. ๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฑ #retract

Authorities say police shot and killed a man who was armed with a rifle and throwing incendiary devices at an immigration prison in Washington state. The Tacoma Police Department in a news release says officers responded at about 4 a.m. Saturday to the privately run Tacoma Northwest Detention Center, which is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security detention facility that holds migrants. The man died at the scene. His name hasn't been released. No law enforcement officers were injured. ๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ

Cheers were heard across large swathes of Manhattan as the lights flicked back to life after an hours-long outage caused chaos in the city. The blackout was reported in Midtown, Times Square, Hellโs Kitchen, and other parts of Upper Manhattan, with subway stations affected and street lights out. The New York City Fire Department said the cause of the outages, which left more than 73,000 Con Edison customers without power, was a transformer fire which started at West 64th Street and West End Avenue on the Upper West Side. No deaths or injuries were reported due to the blackout, which officials said began at 6.47pm and darkened a stretch of the city from West 42nd Street to West 72nd Street, 42 years to the day from a major 1970s blackout that sparked rioting and looting. #NYC
