Villagers in Kalagama, Galkiriyagama, Sri Lanka, were woken early Monday morning by the sound of trumpeting. And when they went to investigate they found the two calves trapped in a pit. Their mothers stood nearby with the rest of the herd as they anxiously waited for their calves to escape the muddy well. Wildlife officials were called and and a digger drafted in to break down the edge of the pit, allowing the animals to climb out themselves. ☺️
