Invasion of the monster jellyfish! Barrel jellyfish, also known as dustbin lid jellyfish due to their enormous size, have been spotted bobbing in the harbour in Torquay, Devon, UK. Locals and holidaymakers were stunned when they spotted the giant creatures floating in the water among the boats. They are the largest jellyfish found in British waters, reaching 77 pounds in weight, and are commonly spotted out to sea, but rarely near the coast. Despite their menacing appearance they are harmless to humans, but they can leave you with a nasty rash similar to that of a nettle sting. 😱
