Cannabis activists to celebrate 48th Hash Bash festival in Ann Arbor ๐บ Like any large on-campus event, it comes with challenges. For starters, good luck trying to park anywhere downtown Saturday. Hash Bash typically mixes political activism with a party atmosphere. The focus in previous years has been legalization at the state level, but that discussion is expected to turn toward legalization at a federal level this year. Don't be surprised if members of the Michigan congressional delegation show up to talk about federal legalization. The event draws a large crowd, not necessarily all students. โIโll eventually check it out one of my years here, but Iโm not sure Iโm going tomorrow,โ freshman Julian Jacobs said. Final exams are looming. โบ๏ธ

Gangs from all over the city of Los Angeles came together in a peaceful vigil for the slain Nipsey Hussle (center) after leaders worked on a general truce this week. Gang members met in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles and marched to The Marathon Clothing store where the rapper was gunned down. The unity rally was unlike anything seen between Los Angeles street gangs since 1992 and organizers look to build on the vigil to build a lasting peace.

A black Labrador, called Timber, diced with death after confronting a cougar in Sayward, British Columbia, in order to protect its owner. Shocking footage captured on an Ipad shows the dog barking wildly at the big cat before the dangerous animal edges forward and bares its teeth. The dog's owner said he eventually got the big cat to go away by hitting it on the head with a stick and hurling a small log at it. ๐ฑ๐ข

President Trump received a warm welcome in at least one section of LA today, a day after backing off his latest threat to close the border between Mexico and the United States. After inspecting the 30-foot 'bollard wall' at the Calexico-Mexicali border, Trump flew on to Los Angeles for a private fundraising event in Beverley Hills with a key GOP donor. Later, he was cheered as he arrived at his Rancho Palos Verdes golf club where he shook hands with enthusiastic guests and enjoyed dinner with his son Eric. While guests at the dinner were seemingly overjoyed to meet him, not everyone in LA was glad of his arrival. Protesters were seen in the area holding signs slamming the president.

Government and Fisher-Price issue warning for Rock 'n Play after 10 infant deaths reported. ๐ฑ Parents using Fisher-Priceโs Rock โn Play Sleeper with their young babies, take note. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Fisher-Price issued a warning Friday "due to reports of death when infants roll over in the product."Since most infants start rolling over around three months, the warning advises consumers to stop using the product by three months "or as soon as an infant exhibits rollover capabilities." The government safety commission said in the statement it is aware of 10 deaths since 2015 "after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side, while unrestrained. All 10 infants were 3 months or older." โ ๏ธ
Back-to-back storms threatens a round of severe weather, high winds, possible tornadoes and even blizzard conditions into midweek in some sections as warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico clashes with colder, dryer air rolling in from the northwest in the nation's midsection. If the initial storm this weekend grabs enough moisture, it could spread wind-driven rain and several inches of snow eastward across the North Central states, AccuWeather reports. "The speed of the arrival of Gulf moisture may be a key player in the extent and nature of severe thunderstorms such as determining whether straight-line wind gusts versus tornadoes are more likely," says AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski. The storm could even dump enough rain over parts of the central Plains in portions of Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois to aggravate recent severe flooding. ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฆโ๏ธ
A New Record and The Research Continues. This female was over 17 feet long, weighed 140 pounds, and contained 73 developing eggs. She is the largest python ever removed from Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida and she was caught because of research and a new approach to finding pythons. Using male pythons with radio transmitters allows the team to track the male to locate breeding females. The team not only removes the invasive snakes, but collects data for research, develop new removal tools, and learn how the pythons are using the Preserve. The team tracked one of the sentinel males with the transmitter and found this massive female nearby. All of the python work at Big Cypress is focused on controlling this invasive species, which poses significant threats to native wildlife. ๐๐ฑ
Saudi Arabia detained eight people, including two dual U.S.-Saudi citizens, in a new round of arrests in the kingdom targeting individuals supportive of womenโs rights and those with ties to jailed activists, a person with knowledge of the apprehensions said Friday. It marks the first sweep of arrests to target individuals perceived as critics of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman since the killing of writer Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in October. The arrests come despite global outcry over Khashoggiโs grisly killing by Saudi agents in an operation directed by former top aides to the crown prince. ๐ก
