Authorities arrested a man who allegedly admitted to setting six fires along the 101 Freeway in Echo Park early Friday morning, officials said. Edgar Saavedra-Recinos of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of arson in the series of blazes that broke out between about 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. near the 101 Freeway and Coronado Street, the L.A. Fire Department said in a news release. The fires burned vegetation along the freeway’s containing walls and damaged a homeless encampment, but firefighters were able to put the flames out before they spread further. Aerial video from Sky5 showed a person running from where flames were burning along the freeway. A witness told KTLA she’d seen the arsonist in the area before. After examining the scenes and speaking to multiple witnesses, investigators identified Saavedra-Recinos as the suspect, LAFD said.

The Phoenix Police Department recently partnered with the City of Mesa Police Department, Tempe Police Department, Chandler Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Attorney General's Office for Operation Broken Hearts. Operation Broken Hearts was an undercover operation targeting sexual predators engaged in child sex crimes and human trafficking. Throughout the operational period, officers and undercover detectives placed ads on websites and apps which are commonly sought out by suspects seeking illegal sex acts with children. These suspects solicited and/or brokered deals for various sex acts and were subsequently arrested. The combined efforts of the agencies involved, are part of a nationwide effort to eliminate human and sex trafficking. Federal authorities are charging a Pennsylvania police officer over his involvement in the Jan. 6 protest on Capitol Hill.

Joseph Fischer, a patrolman at North Cornwall Township Police Department, is being charged with obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, knowingly entering a restricted building without lawful authority, violent entry and conduct on Capitol grounds, and obstruction of justice/Congress.

The charges come after authorities said Fischer posted video of himself on Facebook charging a line of police officers on Capitol Hill during the insurrection, which unsuccessfully tried to prevent Congress’s certification of the Electoral College results.

Fischer wrote in one Facebook comment that “entry into the Capital was needed to send a message that we the people hold the real power.” He added in a private message that he “may need a job” after it was revealed he participated in the insurrection.

He added that he had spoken with his chief, who informed him that being fired could be the “price I have to pay to voice my freedom and liberties which I was born with and thusly taken away,” though he added he had “no regrets” about his actions.

Fischer’s employment status was not immediately clear at the time the charges were filed.

Federal authorities are still arresting and charging rioters who stormed the Capitol last month. Among those charged are several current or former members of the military or police departments across the country.
