A little before 8:15 p.m. on January 15, 2021, members of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) were conducting a follow-up investigation regarding a possible gang-related #shooting in the southern region of Sacramento County. During the investigation, evidence gathered led detectives to a location in Carmichael near Ranger Way and Rampart Drive. Detectives located a vehicle connected to the investigation, occupied by at least two subjects. Gang Detectives attempted to contact the occupants of the vehicle. At some point during the contact, multiple shots were fired striking one detective and the suspect. Fire personnel responded; however, upon arrival, they pronounced the suspect identified as 25-year-old Kershawn Geiger, deceased at the scene. The wounded detective was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment.
