When life give you lemons, make lemonade – for others. A 5-year-old boy in Missouri has helped raise over $3,000 with lemonade stand for a volunteer firefighter who was injured in a deadly shooting at a local Applebee’s last week. Kinloch Fire Protection District firefighter Arlydia Bufford was eating in a St. John’s Applebee’s on June 22 with her best friend Kimberly Ratliffe-Penton when a random gunman opened fire inside the restaurant, Fox 2 Now reports. Ratliffe-Penton was killed, while Bufford and another customer, Lakisha French, were injured. French’s injuries were not life-threatening, and Bufford, 20, was said to be in critical, but stable condition after surgeries last Wednesday, per KDSK. After learning of Bufford’s story, Cooper Wallweber, 5, and his older sister Olivia Boyer felt compelled to do something good for the first responder. The brother and sister recently set up shop with a roadside lemonade stand in St. Peter's to benefit Bufford, and business boomed during the six-hour venture.

Los Angeles County beaches will close to the public during the Fourth of July weekend to limit the spread of COVID-19, but the county sheriff announced Monday his department won't enforce the closure order. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced the order on Monday which will close the beaches for all recreational activities -- as well as prohibit fireworks displays to deter large crowds. L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said his department wasn't consulted on that order and they will only enforce parking lots and traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Beaches will be closed from July 3 to July 6 at 5 a.m. The department announced more than 2,900 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, which it said was "the single largest one-day case count since the pandemic began." The order will include "all public beaches, piers, public beach parking lots, beach bike paths that traverse that sanded portion of the beach, and beach access points."

A Missouri couple under fire for brandishing guns in the front yard of their home as protesters passed told police the group broke a gate to get onto the private street, and the pair say they only retrieved their firearms when they spotted “multiple” people who were already armed. The pair called the St. Louis Police Department shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday. They told arriving officers that they had heard a "commotion" and, upon investigating further, “observed a large group of subjects forcefully break an iron gate marked with ‘No Trespassing’ and ‘Private Street' signs”. Based on the couple’s account, police labeled the incident a case of trespassing and assault by intimidation, according to the incident summary. No other police reports were filed that night. “This is all private property. There are no public sidewalks or public streets,” McCloskey said. “We were told that we would be killed, our home burned and our dog killed. We were all alone facing an angry mob.”

Two employees were fired after an Ohio couple who purchased a pizza at Little Caesars found pepperonis had been placed to form a backward swastika. Misty and Jason Laska made the discovery when they opened the box that they had purchased at the store in Brook Park on Saturday. "These are the kinds of things that are continuing to fuel the hate and the confusion that exists in the country and in the world," Jason Laska said. The Laskas said they tried calling the store, but were unable to reach anyone. "We're trying to solve hate, and even if this was just a joke internally for the employees, just stop. Stop with the symbolism, and let it go away," Jason Laska told WOIO-TV.

WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! The El Centro Police Department (ECPD) releases body camera footage of an officer-involved #shooting that resulted in the death of an El Centro man last December. The release of the footage comes less than a month after Manuel Verdugo's daughter, Stacey Verdugo, filed a lawsuit demanding the release of bodycam footage from officers. According to ECPD, 50-year-old Manuel Verdugo allegedly charged at police with knives in his hands that he had stolen from the store. Police say they tried to subdue him with a bean bag gun but failed. Three officers then discharged their weapons at Verdugo to defend themselves. Verdugo died of his injuries at the scene.
