National forecast for Monday, June 22
An American man was among the three victims stabbed to death in a park in the English town of Reading that is being treated as a terror attack, the U.S. ambassador to Britain confirmed Monday. Ambassador Woody Johnson offered his “deepest condolences'' to the families of those killed in the attack on June 20. A 25-year-old man who is believed to be the lone attacker is in custody but officials said the motive for the carnage was unclear. Three people were killed and three others seriously wounded in the stabbing attack Saturday evening in Forbury Gardens park in Reading, a town of 200,000 people 40 miles west of London. The Philadelphia Inquirer named the American victim as Joe Ritchie-Bennett, a friend of James Furlong, a history teacher named by his school as one of the victims. Britain’s official terrorism threat level remains at “substantial” after the attack.

Will rise in gun violence impact movement to defund the police? Wall Street Journal associate editor and Fox News contributor John Bussey on uptick in violence in major cities.
Two bags of human remains found on a Seattle beach Friday were reportedly discovered by a group of teens as they filmed a TikTok video. One suspicious bag was found on the West Seattle shoreline of Elliot Bay, across from Pike’s Place Market, and a second bag was seen floating in the water nearby, police said in a statement. While police have not said who made the grisly discovery, a TikTok video posted Saturday by a group of teens appears to show them stumbling across a black suitcase dumped on the rocks of the waterfront. The teens only learned later that the suitcase held a dead body, according to the video. After officers responded to a call, police said “several bags” were found at the scene and that investigators determined human remains were inside. Harbor Patrol and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office are working with detectives in the investigation, police said. No further details in the investigation were released.
Two men charged with vandalizing a Black Lives Matter sign in California were employees of a sheriff’s office and district attorney’s office. They were issued citations for vandalism following investigations by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, which employed one of the men. “I’m deeply disappointed that one of our employees involved himself in this type of illegal activity, especially when this is an infringement on someone’s First Amendment right to freedom of speech,” Sheriff Bill Ayub said Saturday in reference to Darrin Stone. A homeowner in Thousand Oaks had used a large tarp to erect the BLM sign, he said. The homeowner also posted surveillance camera footage of the sign being damaged on social media, which led to detectives recognizing Stone as the vandal, Buschow said.
