(WARNING: 21+) A police officer last month fired through the open passenger door of a car, striking a suspected car thief at least once as he sat behind the wheel telling the officer to shoot him, according to video of the incident released Monday by El Cajon police. The #FBI has become aware of recent cases in New Mexico of a phone scam known as virtual kidnapping in which a victim is told his or her family member has been kidnapped and a ransom demanded, according to news release. Unlike traditional abductions, virtual kidnappers have not actually kidnapped anyone. Instead, through deceptions and threats, they coerce victims to pay a quick ransom before the scheme falls apart. If you suspect a real kidnapping is taking place or you believe a ransom demand is a scheme, immediately contact the Albuquerque FBI Division at (505) 889-1300 or local law enforcement.

On March 25th, a serious stabbing incident occurred in the 2100 block of Allston Avenue shortly before noon, involving a pregnant woman who was stabbed numerous times. The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition. L.M.P.D. Fugitive unit was contacted to assist homicide in locating the suspect. Detroit Police Chief James Craig says 152 police officers are out amid the coronavirus outbreak, including five who have tested positive for COVID-19. “I’ve never seen anything like this," Craig said during a press conference Friday. "As of right now we have 152 members of the police department that are quarantined. Of that, 130 were ordered to quarantined; 22 self-quarantined." He added: "At this point we currently have five sworn police officers and one civilian contract employee who has tested positive for Covid-19 ... It’s certainly a cause for concern … I can tell you that our services at this point will not change.” According to the City of Detroit's website, there are 2,200 total Detroit police officers. Craig noted that while he had previously modified protocol to give officers much more discretion over whether to respond to minor misdemeanors, this has not changed, USA Today reported.
