The National Weather Service said the storm will hit portions of the Central Plains, Upper Midwest and the Northeast though Sunday. It has already dropped up to two feet of snow in the Northwest while bringing 80mph wind gusts. In the Central and Midwest regions…
More than 1,000 flights have been cancelled and SpaceX rocket launch in Florida postponed as crippling winter storms crash through the Midwest, causing several cities to declare snow emergencies and leaving millions of people affected by the weather. Roadways across the country have become dangerous as snow and ice cause drivers to careen out of control. In a video shared by the Iowa State Police on Twitter, a state trooper was helping a delivery driver whose car was stuck in snowy grass off Interstate 90. Suddenly, a white pickup slides off the highway and barrels towards the truck as the delivery man lunges out of the way. No one was injured. ❄️☃️
Hundreds of far-right activists marched through the streets of a German city to commemorate the 75th anniversary of an RAF bombing raid. The protesters clashed with left wing counter-demonstrators in Magdeburg which was levelled near the end of the Second World War on January 16, 1945, in a raid that killed up to 2,500 people. The far-right 'funeral march' took to the streets last night as around 500 counter-demonstrators from the 'Regina' movement - an alliance against the far right - blasted music and set up blockades. Local media reported that around 800 police officers were drafted in and there were claims on social media that they used pepper spray to keep the rival groups apart.
Police are scouring the internet for clues about plans for mayhem, workers are putting up chain link holding pens around Virginia's picturesque Capitol Square, and one lawmaker even plans to hide in a safe house in advance of what's expected to be an unprecedented show of force by gun-rights activists, FOX11 reported. What is provoking their anger in this once reliably conservative state is the new Democratic majority leadership and its plans to enact a slew of gun restrictions. The Virginia Citizens Defense League's yearly rally at the Capitol typically draws just a few hundred gun enthusiasts. This year, however, thousands of gun activists are expected to turn out. Second Amendment groups have identified the state as a rallying point for the fight against what they see as a national erosion of gun rights.

(WARNING: 21 ) CT State Police has released the body camera footage from the officer-involved shooting in West Haven. According to state police, Trooper Brian North shot and killed 19-year-old Mubarak Soulemane after he stole a ride-share car at knifepoint outside of an AT&T store in Norwalk. In the body camera footage, Trooper North pulls up to the scene and runs up to the driver’s side of the car, which is nearly blocked by a patrol car, with his gun drawn. Trooper Jackson appears to use the stun gun but it apparently didn’t work. “He’s got a knife,” North yells. “Drop the knife. Drop the knife. It’s out of his hands; it’s on his lap.” After a few seconds, the driver’s door appears to open, and North fires roughly seven shots into the window, hitting Soulemane. 🔫👮🏻‍♂️ #shooting

UFC 246: Conor McGregor knocks out Cowboy in first round. Conor McGregor wasted no time reminding people why he is the most exciting fighter in MMA. It took the Irishman just 40 seconds of the first round to dominate Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, earning an emphatic TKO victory in his first fight in 15 months. McGregor softened up Cerrone with three shoulders to the face during a clinch, then stepped back and delivered a left kick that landed flush on Cerrone’s jaw. Clearly dazed, Cerrone staggered back against the Octagon and slowly slumped to the canvas as McGregor began to land a series of unanswered punches until referee Herb Dean called a quick halt to the fight.🥊
