A Revolutionary Guards commander said Iran would take “harsher revenge soon” after Tehran launched missile attacks on U.S. targets in Iraq in retaliation for last week’s U.S. killing of an Iranian general, Tasnim news agency reported on Thursday. The agency was quoting senior commander Abdollah Araghi, speaking after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran appeared to be “standing down” after the missile strikes that did not harm any U.S. troops in Iraq, reported Reuters. In a separate report, Tasnim quoted the deputy Guards head, Ali Fadavi, as saying Iranian missile attacks on U.S. targets were a display of Iran’s military power and said U.S. forces “couldn’t do a damn thing.”

French trade unions disrupted rail services, cut power output and brought demonstrators onto the streets in cities across France on Thursday in a make-or-break push to force President Emmanuel Macron to abandon his planned pension reform, Reuters reports. The country’s hard-left unions rallied supporters hoping to regain momentum at a time participation in a 36-day long public sector strike wanes and opinion polls show public backing for the industrial action dropping. Police fired teargas at protesters in Nantes, western France, and in Paris, where demonstrators hurled projectiles at officers in brief skirmishes and trailed smoke flares.
One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a shooting Wednesday morning in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa and a "coordinated response" is underway as police hunt for a suspect, according to officials. The Ottawa Police Department said the incident happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 400-block of Gilmour Street, located in the central part of the city. "Many injuries reported. A coordinated response is underway," police tweeted shortly after the shooting. "Please avoid the area." In a news release, police said that officers were called to the scene after reports of multiple gunshots. Officers arriving at the scene found several people injured. "At this time, three people have been transported to [a] hospital with serious injuries and one person has been confirmed deceased," authorities stated. The incident was taking place about a half-mile south of Parliament Hill, CBC News reported.
The U.S. government's road safety agency is sending a special team to Indiana to investigate a fatal crash involving a Tesla electric vehicle, reported FOX News. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday that its team will check the crash scene and inspect the Model 3 vehicle involved in the Dec. 29 crash with a parked firetruck on Interstate 70 near Terre Haute. The crash, which killed the driver's wife who was a passenger in the Tesla, is the second one to be investigated in the past two weeks by NHTSA. Also on Dec. 29, a Tesla Model S sedan left a freeway in Gardena, Calif., at a high speed, ran a red light and struck a Honda Civic, killing two people inside, police said. In both cases, authorities have yet to determine whether the Teslas were operating on Autopilot, a system designed to keep a car in its lane and a safe distance from other vehicles. Autopilot also can change lanes on its own.
