A man was taken into custody at a North Hollywood supermarket Tuesday afternoon after a chase through the San Fernando Valley ended in a crash. The pursuit made its way along surface streets in Burbank shortly before 12:30 p.m. and then headed toward the intersection of Magnolia Boulevard and Vineland Avenue, where the reportedly stolen SUV slammed into the driver's side of another SUV. The suspect continued on even after the collision sheared off the front end of the vehicle. The car limped into the parking lot of a nearby Ralph's supermarket, where the driver jumped out of the still-moving vehicle in an apparent attempt to flee on foot. Los Angeles police officers took him into custody without incident moments later. He did not appear to be seriously injured. 👮🏻‍♂️ #LAPD #pursuit

Amid the epidemic levels of youth use of e-cigarettes and the popularity of certain products among children, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration today issued a policy prioritizing enforcement against certain unauthorized flavored e-cigarette products that appeal to kids, including fruit and mint flavors, reported Breaking 911. Under this policy, companies that do not cease manufacture, distribution and sale of unauthorized flavored cartridge-based e-cigarettes (other than tobacco or menthol) within 30 days risk FDA enforcement actions. “The United States has never seen an epidemic of substance use arise as quickly as our current epidemic of youth use of e-cigarettes. HHS is taking a comprehensive, aggressive approach to enforcing the law passed by Congress, under which no e-cigarettes are currently on the market legally,” said HHS Secretary Alex Azar.
A California motorist shared a shocking video appearing to show the moment another vehicle goes off a cliff along Highway 1 in San Mateo County, south of San Francisco. A witness heading south on the highway reported seeing an SUV traveling north speed off the cliff at approximately 11 a.m. Monday. A subsequent search by CalFire, the California Highway Patrol, the San Mateo County Fire Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office ensued for the vehicle and driver in water up to 40 feet deep. Rescue workers did report finding tire tracks on the cliff and auto parts in the water, but were unable to determine if the parts were related to Monday’s crash. As of Thursday afternoon, rescue workers had been unable to find either the vehicle or any occupants. 👻 #WTF?

A flying highway sign gave a driver an unwelcome New Year's Eve gift when it impaled the rear window of his Corvette during a highway mishap that left multiple vehicles damaged in south Florida. The large highway merge sign speared the rear window of the car Tuesday afternoon on the northbound lanes of I-95, about 20 miles from Miami. A man named Malcolm, who owns the car, says it happened during his ride home from the gym. Investigators think a car hit the sign and it flew into the air and was launched into the Corvette’s windshield. "I didn't even see it. It just happened really fast," Malcolm said. The yellow sign was standing straight out from the shattered window. Up to five vehicles were involved in crashes while apparently trying to avoid the sign before it crashed through the Corvette.

Several drivers in Washington state had to be rescued by snowplows after getting trapped in their vehicles on a highway New Year's Eve, according to officials. But the rescues had nothing to do with wintry weather. Tumbleweeds had piled up about 30 feet, blocking State Route 240 and leaving "several vehicles trapped," including a semi-truck, according to Washington State Patrol, FOX News reports. The road was closed in both directions around 6:30 p.m. near West Richland, Wash. Trooper Chris Thorson shared a photo of Department of Transportation workers making their way through the piles of tumbleweeds in the dark as some drivers can still be seen in their vehicles. Thorson said that the tumbleweeds were piled between 20 and 30 feet high in some places. A video from Thorson with the hashtag #tumblegeddon showed workers from the DOT digging the vehicle out.
The Australian navy on Friday began the evacuations of some of the thousands of people stranded on the east coast of the fire-ravaged country as a searing weather front was set to whip up more blazes across the states of Victoria and New South Wales, reported Reuters. At the peak of the summer holiday period, tens of thousands of holidaymakers were urged to leave national parks and tourist areas on the NSW south coast and eastern areas of Victoria before a return of temperatures above 104 F and strong winds on Saturday. Victoria declared a state of disaster for the first time, giving authorities broad powers to compel people to leave their properties and take control of services, similar to the state of emergency that has been declared in NSW. So far this week the fires have killed seven people in NSW and two in Victoria, where 28 other people are unaccounted for. The navy started the evacuations of nearly 1,000 of the 4,000 people stranded on a beach in the isolated town of Mallacoota in far-east Victoria.🔥
