An Oklahoma police officer was indicted last week for murder after he allegedly fired nearly 60 rounds at a road-rage suspect earlier this year, reported Fox News. John Mitchell, a 40-year-old lieutenant with the Blackwell Police Department, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Micheal Ann Godsey, 34, on May 20. Mitchell engaged in "imminently dangerous conduct" when he shot Godsey in Blackwell, located roughly 90 miles north of Oklahoma City, a grand jury concluded last Thursday, alleging the officer wasn't justified in firing dozens of shots at the suspect.
A New York man who pledged his support to the Islamic State has been arrested for trying to help the “terrorist organization bent on killing Americans” and for encouraging attacks on U.S. soil, officials said. Zachary Clark, 40, was arrested Wednesday in Brooklyn, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Further details weren’t immediately available. “Today’s arrest in Brooklyn is a reminder that New York City remains a top terrorism target in the United States,” #NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill said. Beginning in at least March 2019, Clark posted on encrypted pro-ISIS chat rooms, where he shared instructions on how to carry out terror attacks on U.S. soil and encouraged “lone wolf” attacks in New York City and other well-populated areas, a criminal complaint said. The 40-year-old was charged with providing material support to ISIS and distributing information relating to explosives and weapons of mass destruction. The second blast ripped through the plant about 2 p.m., sending a steel column high into the air. That prompted Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick, the top county official, to order a mandatory evacuation of Port Neches and neighboring Groves, Nederland and part of Port Arthur. Monk said TPC would form an investigation team to determine what led to the explosions. “We’re staying focused on the safety of our emergency response personnel folks in and around in the community as well as trying to protect the environment,” Monk said at a news conference. Firefighters have not been able to fully assess the damage at the plant, he said. Mexico on Wednesday rejected “interventionism” after U.S. President Donald Trump said he will designate the Latin American nation’s cartels as terrorist organizations, while a former U.S. official warned of unintended outcomes from such a move, Reuters report. Designating groups as foreign terrorist organizations is aimed at disrupting their finances through the imposition of U.S. sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans, on them and individuals and entities that support them. Trump said in comments broadcast on Tuesday that Mexico’s cartels “will” be designated. A growing chorus of conservative voices in the United States has called for Mexican cartels to be classified as terrorist groups after the killing in Mexico earlier this month of nine American mothers and children with dual Mexican nationality.
