The girl threw up her hand to block the knife and suffered multiple cuts to her fingers. When her mother jumped in to protect her, court records say Dimas Gabriel Yanes tried to attack her too.
Other parents chased him toward the woods, and police caught him the next day after a large search.
Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said Yanes had been deported to Honduras in 2018, illegally returned to the United States, built up a criminal history across multiple states and had documented ties to MS-13.
This should NEVER have happened. Authorities had already removed him from the country once.
Thank God she survived.

A group of suspects pulled up to a Northwest Side alley and opened fire, killing one person and injuring six others, including a driver who crashed into a CTA bus on Sunday afternoon, Chicago police said.
According to police, the shooting happened around 12:17 p.m. in the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue. Investigators said six people were standing near an alley when two vehicles approached and multiple armed offenders got out and opened fire.

Police responded Sunday morning after the newly unveiled statue and a nearby memorial were found defaced. No suspect has been publicly identified.
โThis isnโt the country we want to live in. Arizona is not Gotham,โ Turning Point Action COO Tyler Bowyer wrote on social media.
Turning Point USA worked to restore the statue Sunday and replace the damaged signs. The statue was unveiled Thursday, one year after Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University.

NEW: A Crosby man punched a Brainerd police officer in the face, tried to grab the officerโs gun and later knocked another officer unconscious with a kick to the head during a midday confrontation at Bane Park, Minnesota.
Felo Pierre Simenstad, 19, got off the bike and punched the officer in the face, knocking him to the ground, then continued throwing punches. The complaint states Simenstad grabbed the officerโs holstered handgun with both hands and tried to open the retention hood.
Both eventually got to their feet, and the officer deployed his taser into Simenstadโs back, but Simenstad managed to run into the woods as the officer was unable to chase him due to an ankle injury.
He then violently kicked another officer in the face, causing the officer to lose consciousness and collapse.
