A two-vehicle, head-on crash involving a Polk County sheriff's deputy has shut down traffic on Cypress Parkway/Johnson Avenue between Haines City and Poinciana, the sheriff's office said.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Johnson Avenue/Cypress Parkway near the intersection with Lake Marion Creek Road.

The deputy was on duty and in a patrol vehicle, sheriff's spokesperson Carrie Horstman said.

The sheriff's office said the deputy is stable and alert in the hospital with a hip and leg injury and laceration to his arm. The other driver was also taken to a hospital, but no information was immediately available on his injuries.

Praying for all involvedπŸ™πŸ»

On September 5, the Virginia State Police family, alongside family, friends, and our law enforcement partners, gathered to give final honors to Retired Superintendent William F. β€œBill” Corvello, recognizing his 37 years of dedicated service to the Virginia State Police and the Commonwealth.

Thank you to all who came out to honor his memory and legacy. We are grateful to the Newport News and Portsmouth Police Departments for standing with us in this final tribute.

Our continued condolences are with his wife Cheryl, his children, his loved ones, and all who knew and served alongside him.

May his service, leadership, and legacy never be forgotten. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Happy Labor Day!

Did you know? Labor Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1882 in New York City and became a federal holiday in 1894. It was established to recognize the achievements and contributions of American workers and the labor movement.

This Labor Day, we proudly recognize the hardworking men and women whose dedication and service strengthen our communities each day. We honor the commitment, sacrifice, and countless contributions of those who work tirelessly to serve others and help make Los Angeles County a safer, stronger place to call home.

From all of us at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, we wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable Labor Day.

Celebrate responsibly. If you drink, don’t drive. Plan ahead and designate a sober ride home.
