WATCH LIVE: Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Briefs Members of the Media, Jul. 16, 2026

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1ETCbVrE5j/

PressSec: "Tuesday's CPI report confirmed what POTUS predicted: prices are falling, and this administration's economic policies are working. Inflation dropped .4% last month, beating expectations and marking the largest monthly decline in more than 6 years."

PressSec announces President Trump will attend Sunday's FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium: "A fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America's ability to host the world on the grandest stage."

"I want to remind everyone that TrumpAccounts are now officially live," says PressSec.

"Government projections how that a child whose family maxes out contributions could see the account grow to nearly $300,000 by the time the child turns 18. This is, I think we can all agree, an enormously powerful head start toward the American Dream."

PressSec: "Brand new numbers this week from DHS and CBP confirm that for the 14th straight month, this administration has released ZERO illegal aliens into the United States. Again, let me reiterate—the FOURTEENTH straight month, not a single illegal criminal alien has been released into our country by this administration."

PressSec: "I would encourage everyone tune in tonight... Safe and secure elections are a true tenet of our constitutional republic, and the President will be speaking about that tonight."

PressSec on the World Cup: "I think the world saw that POTUS, and this country, is able to put on the greatest show in sports—in the world... and we have the best country on the planet. I've loved seeing the videos from foreigners from around the world who've traveled to the United States and have been quite surprised about how lovely and enjoyable the United States is."

PressSec: "It will shock you, if you have an honest eye, listening to the President tonight... We should have the safest and most secure elections in the history of the world — and what the President is speaking about tonight will show you that perhaps that is not the case."

PressSec: "Let me just express my sincere condolences to Senator Graham's staff and his family. He was beloved by so many here at the White House, especially POTUS, and I know that the news of his sudden passing was just tragic to all of us."

"Iran very much continues to talk to the United States of America and express that they want to make a deal with us because they are suffering devastating blows on behalf of our United States military," says @PressSec.

"In the Memorandum of Understanding that they signed, they were not to fire on commercial vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz. And unfortunately, they have made the tragic decision—for them—to do that. POTUS is not going to sit by and allow these active acts of terrorism to take place in the Strait without ensuring Iran pays consequences for that."

PressSec: "There is a blockade of ships, directed by POTUS, for ships entering and departing Iranian ports only...this blockade was reimposed due to Iran's inability to honor their agreement with the United States...the Strait is OPEN for ships that are not traveling to and from Iranian ports specifically, and the U.S. Navy is there to ensure that can take place."

PressSec: "What we haven't seen is what all of the naysayers said; that there would be massive increases in the price of oil that so many warned about—and that's, in large part, because of POTUS' domestic energy policies here at home to revamp our domestic production."

PressSec: "Vehicle stops are continuing... POTUS and Sec.Mullin are on the same page that vehicle stops are a necessary tool that ICE agents need in order to continue their deportation campaign of the worst of the worst illegal alien criminals from our country."

Street takeovers aren't entertainment they're increasingly becoming scenes of tragedy. Beyond the dangerous stunts and reckless driving, these illegal gatherings have seen a growing number of shootings, serious injuries, and deaths, putting participants, spectators, and innocent bystanders at risk.

Those skid marks on the street tell stories of lives cut short. They are reminders of lives lost, families forever changed, and futures gone too soon. The skid marks fade, but the pain doesn't.

Choose safety. Choose life. Celebrate responsibly and help keep our roads safe for everyone. Deputies will be out on patrol, and vehicles participating in street takeovers will be towed.

Let's work together to make sure everyone gets home safely.

WATCH: Sheriff Chad Chronister provided an update to the community on the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting.

The incident happened on West Shell Point Road near U.S. 41.

One deputy was shot in the face, and another was shot in the neck, Chronister said.

"Our suspect ambushed our deputies from the moment they arrived on scene. He was intent on taking the life of a deputy sheriff," he said.

The sheriff said a woman reported Thursday morning that she had been held hostage overnight by her ex-boyfriend, but that he allowed her to leave when she told him she had an appointment she couldn't miss.

Deputies later responded to the home, and that's where the deputies were shot.

They were medevaced to Tampa General Hospital, the sheriff's office said. Chronister said he was able to speak to each deputy before they were transported.

The office also said that the suspect was shot and later died at a hospital.

Chronister said there was no threat to public safety.

Praying and believing in a full recovery for both deputies.🙏🏻

⚠️When emergency response times stretch to an average of 45 minutes for Priority One calls, every second matters. Behind every statistic is a family, a neighborhood, and lives forever changed.

San Diego deserves better. Our first responders deserve the resources they need, and our communities deserve to know that help will arrive when it's needed most.

"When someone calls 911 because a life is in danger, waiting more than 45 minutes for help is unacceptable. Our officers are doing everything they can, but they simply cannot be everywhere at once." - SDPOA President Jared Wilson
