On the heels of President Donald Trump saying zero people are crossing the border right now, NewsNation rode along exclusively with the Department of Public Safety in Texas as they conducted a joint operation with Border Patrol to go after those trying to evade arrest. In this episode of "Bradley on the Border," we see what immigration officials are up against in the Rio Grande Valley when it comes to human smuggling and stash houses, as well as tracking down the "got-aways."

Using live drone feeds, agents track a group of eight who crossed the river illegally, watching in real time as troopers and federal agents converge to cut off the group before they can load into a vehicle and disappear into Texas. Ali speaks with a DPS official about what it takes to make the operation work, including how state and federal charges are being used in tandem to close loopholes cartels once exploited.

Update: Texas shooter who killed 1 and injured 10 is unmasked as rifle-toting fugitive who tried to kill a cop days before the rampage

The Texas gunman who killed one and injured ten others has been identified as a rifle-wielding fugitive who shot at officers days earlier.

Victor Mata Villarreal, 45, died following an armed standoff with police in Midland, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Officers were called to reports of an active shooter in the 4600 block of West Wall Street at 8am Central Time on Friday.

When they arrived, Villarreal began firing shots at officers and bystanders, and then barricaded himself inside an abandoned veterinary clinic building, DPS said.

Officers surrounded the building, and after an armed standoff, Villarreal was located inside, deceased, around 12.30pm.

Villarreal had been wanted for attempted capital murder of a peace officer after firing multiple shots at a Midland Police Department (MPD) officer during a late-night vehicle pursuit on Wednesday.

Police attempted to pull Villarreal over for a traffic stop, but he fled for several blocks before pulling over and firing rounds from a rifle at an officer.

Villarreal fled on foot after abandoning his vehicle nearby and police were unable to locate him.

The officer was not injured, but Villarreal was wanted for attempted capital murder of a peace officer.

The community was advised not to approach him while the manhunt was underway.

It is unclear what prompted Friday morning's gunfire, but officials said Villarreal killed one person and injured ten others.

'Officers heard gunfire coming from the building and worked quickly to secure and clear the area,' Midland police chief Greg Snow said in a social media post.

'Armored units were deployed, and partner agencies assisted in the response. Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing.'

Villarreal was holed up in a building in Midland near the Tall City Vet Clinic and All American Collision and Victorian Inn, Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis said.

'The active shooter incident has been resolved, and the suspect is confirmed deceased,' Midland city officials wrote on Facebook.

'The scene remains active and has not been cleared. Road closures in the area are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future as the investigation continues.'

NEW: A California Highway Patrol officer was involved in a violent crash in San Bernardino County Thursday night.
Details remain limited, and it’s unclear exactly what led to the collision.

Footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA showed a chaotic scene, with at least one CHP officer on the ground who appeared to be injured. Across the street, firefighters were attending to another person who also appeared to be hurt.
A large law enforcement response converged at the scene, with both CHP officers and units from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department assisting.
It is unclear whether the crash occurred while officers were responding to a call or were in pursuit of another vehicle.

UPDATE: Four people, including two CHP officers, suffered major injuries in a crash after a DUI suspect fled from a traffic stop in Victorville. The 23-year-old driver, Cantor Yahancy, initially yielded but then fled, leading to a brief pursuit. The crash occurred when his vehicle collided with a CHP unit at an intersection. Yahancy and an unidentified passenger, along with two CHP officers, were hospitalized. He has been charged with DUI causing injury and felony evading a peace officer.

NEW: A Londonderry NH police officer was injured in a motorcycle crash Thursday while responding to a serious motor vehicle accident, police said.
The officer was operating a marked police motorcycle when he was involved in a crash on Hardy Road near Pheasant Run Road, according to the Londonderry Police Department. The officer was responding to a separate accident reported on Stonehenge Road about 6 p.m.
He was taken by ambulance to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, where he was in stable condition, police said.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the men, women, and families of the Owen County Sheriff's Office after one of their deputies was shot in the line of duty this afternoon.🙏🏽

The Indiana State Police have confirmed that an Owen County deputy was flown for medical treatment after a criminal incident.
This comes after the Owen County Sheriff’s Office asked residents to lock their doors. Details about the criminal incident have not yet been released.
Deputies wrote this on their Facebook page at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, “We have a criminal incident located on Texas Pike just north of Manhattan Road. Avoid the area and all citizens that live in the area. Lock your doors, and it is crucial that you report any suspicious person in the area to 911.”

Two very enthusiastic recruits stopped by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to inquire about future opportunities with our K9 Unit.

While both candidates demonstrated strong teamwork skills, excellent napping abilities, and an eagerness to receive belly rubs, neither was able to remain awake long enough to complete the application process.

After a thorough evaluation, it was determined that their current qualifications include:

Advanced Sleeping Techniques
Expert Cuddle Operations
Unauthorized Snack Detection
Patrol of Soft Blankets and Dog Beds

The K9 Unit has agreed to revisit their applications in approximately 12-18 months, once they have mastered basic commands and can stay awake through an entire interview.

Until then, these future deputies will continue their specialized training in naps, treats, and being adorable.
