1 day to go!
Los Angeles is buzzing with excitement and you can feel the anticipation in every corner of our Department.
Many of our personnel grew up watching or playing soccer, and for many of us, the World Cup is deeply embedded in family traditions, friendly rivalries, and more. That sense of nostalgia only comes around every four years, and this year, we feel very lucky that itβs in our own backyard!
Yesterday, members of the LASD Menβs and Womenβs soccer teams joined Sheriff Luna, Inglewood PD Mark Fronterotta, and losangelesfwc26 for a look at the transformation of Los Angeles Stadium in advance of the first LA match on June 12th. Los Angeles Stadium is physically located in the jurisdiction of Inglewood Police Department, and we are working closely to support their exceptional public safety efforts.
Teamwork is not just taking place on the pitch. As you enjoy the games, remember that behind the scenes, law enforcement agencies are also giving each other assists to ensure the safest, most successful World Cup yet.

The view of the South Fork Fire from Crawford, Nebraska this evening. This is some crazy fire behavior. Nebraska has seen the most active and largest wildfires in the nation this year, and it doesnβt look like itβs stopping.
Residents surrounding Crawford are evacuating, and ranchers are trying to get their cattle to safe locations. The fire is now over 16,000 acres. Over 1.1M acres have burned in the state so far.

Beachgoers witnessed a rare spectacle as a fisherman caught a great white shark on the south shore of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, on Sunday before releasing it back into the ocean.
The fisherman estimated that the shark was more than 8.5 feet long and weighed around 300 pounds. He said he unhooked and released the protected shark in about 15 seconds, after a long battle to reel it in toward the shoreline.
