BPA McDonough started his CBP career in 2007. He recently served at the Wellesley Island Border Patrol Station, Buffalo Sector in New York. He also served in Nogales Station and in Houlton Sector. BPA McDonough also served in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, and as a Military Police Officer.

He is a true hero who selflessly served to protect America.

As a CBP family, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of BPA McDonough.

WATCH: Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force General Dan Caine provide updates on the Iran conflict and respond to questions on key national security issues.

"If you attack American troops or innocent commercial shipping, you will face overwhelming and devastating American firepower."

General Caine breaks down Iran's attacks on commercial shipping on the Strait of Hormuz leading the U.S. to embark on Project Freedom:

"Iran's repeatedly threatened and attacked commercial shipping in the strait in order to effectively cut off commercial traffic and damage the global economy by obstructing one of the world's most critical maritime checkpoints."

"The regime led by the IRGC is effectively attempting to hold the entire global economy hostage."

Secretary Hegseth says the will of the United States military will not be shaken as tensions intensify with Iran.

"Project Freedom is underway, commerce will be flowing, and America is once again leading with strength, clarity and purpose for the benefit of the entire world."

Secretary Hegseth confirms that the Iranian regime is not in control of the Strait of Hormuz:

"Two U.S. commercial ships, along with American destroyers, have already safely transited the strait, showing the lane is clear."

"We know the Iranians are embarrassed by this fact. They said they control the Strait. They do not."

"The ceasefire is not over."

Secretary Hegseth says America's ceasefire with Iran still stands despite the recent military action in the region:

"This is a separate and distinct project, and we expected there would be some churn at the beginning... Ultimately, the president is going to make a decision whether anything were to escalate into a violation of a ceasefire."

Today, we recognize the true meaning of this profession. Law enforcement is more than a job it is a calling defined by courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protect our communities, no matter the cost.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,

“There are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they are worth dying for and I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

This year, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department honors 3 of the 13 fallen officers whose names will now be forever etched on the Memorial Wall in Sacramento. Their legacy will live on in the hearts of those who continue to serve and in the communities they so selflessly protected.

Behind every badge is a family who shares in the sacrifice. The long hours, the missed holidays, and the constant worry. This job doesn’t just affect the deputy, it impacts everyone who stands beside them.

Today, we also recognize the strength of the spouses, children, and families who stand beside them through it all.

Down in Kissimmee, Florida, a dog was spotted lying on the side of the road. It had been hit by a car. Osceola County deputy Josh Fiorelli was passing by when he saw the injured animal. The female dog was alive but was hurt enough that it couldn't move. Josh was heartbroken that such a thing happened. So he called for help then sat down beside the white dog and started petting it. Some dogs might get defensive when they're hurt, but not this one. It seemed to welcome the officer being there for it. Josh then put his jacket over the dog to keep it warm, as the day was chilly and the dog was wet. Says Josh: “She didn't have anyone there, so I decided to be that person.” The dog was soon treated for a dislocated leg. Carlos Irizzary was walking his own dog when he came across Josh helping the injured dog, so he snapped a photo of it, and posted it online. It went viral, and it was shared by several news outlets throughout the country. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office also posted the photo on its website, saying: “...Thank you Deputy Fiorelli for serving with care and compassion.”
