DEVELOPING: A massive search and rescue operation is currently underway in southwestern Morocco following the disappearance of two U.S. Army soldiers on Saturday, May 2.

According to a statement released Sunday by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), the service members were participating in African Lion 2026, the command's largest annual multinational exercise, when they went missing near the Cap Draa Training Area outside the city of Tan Tan. Preliminary reports indicate the soldiers were on a recreational hike after the day’s scheduled training had concluded and were last seen near sea cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. 

Key Details of the Incident:

Location: The rugged, mountainous terrain of the Cap Draa Training Area, characterized by desert plains and steep coastal cliffs. 

Search Effort: A joint task force of U.S. and Moroccan personnel is utilizing ground teams, helicopters, maritime vessels, and divers to scour the coastline and surrounding wilderness. 

Exercise Background: African Lion 2026 is a premier military drill involving over 7,000 personnel from more than 30 nations, designed to bolster interoperability and counterterrorism capabilities across North and West Africa. 

While the incident is still under investigation, defense officials have suggested that the disappearance appears to be an accident unrelated to the active military drills.

AFRICOM has stated that their primary focus remains on the safety of the service members and supporting their families as the search enters its second day.

Texas: Off-duty San Antonio Police officer hurt in Northeast Side scuffle; suspect arrested

 A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting an off-duty police officer during a theft-related confrontation on the city’s Northeast Side.

The incident occurred Saturday night around 10:42 p.m. in the 16000 block of Nacogdoches Road. According to SAPD, the off-duty officer attempted to confront the suspect over a suspected theft when a physical altercation ensued, resulting in injuries to the officer.

The suspect ran from the scene on foot before on-duty officers arrived. The man was quickly located nearby, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Thoughts and prayers with the Minnesota State Trooper who was seriously injured last night in South Minneapolis.🙏🏻

A Minnesota State Trooper was injured when a stolen car carrying three people ran a stop sign and T-boned their squad car. 

Officials say the incident started around 10:30 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood. A Ramsey County Sheriff's deputy saw the stolen car, a Hyundai sedan, and attempted a traffic stop. The driver of the car fled to Minneapolis. 

The deputy originally pursued the car but ended the pursuit after losing sight of the Hyundai, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office.

The state trooper was removed from the squad car and taken to a nearby hospital. The trooper suffered significant injuries, according to officials.

BREAKING: Three people have died on a cruise ship in the Atlantic, the WHO said Sunday, one a confirmed case of hantavirus -- an illness usually transmitted to humans from rodents.

The outbreak occurred on the MV Hondius, travelling from Ushuaia in Argentina to Cape Verde.

"To date, one case of hantavirus infection has been laboratory confirmed, and there are five additional suspected cases," the WHO told AFP.

"Of the six affected individuals, three have died and one is currently in intensive care in South Africa."

Countries from all over the World, almost all of which are not involved in the Middle Eastern dispute going on so visibly, and violently, for all to see, have asked the United States if we could help free up their Ships, which are locked up in the Strait of Hormuz, on something which they have absolutely nothing to do with — They are merely neutral and innocent bystanders! For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business. Again, these are Ships from areas of the World that are not in any way involved with that which is currently taking place in the Middle East. I have told my Representatives to inform them that we will use best efforts to get their Ships and Crews safely out of the Strait. In all cases, they said they will not be returning until the area becomes safe for navigation, and everything else. This process, Project Freedom, will begin Monday morning, Middle East time. I am fully aware that my Representatives are having very positive discussions with the Country of Iran, and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for all. The Ship movement is merely meant to free up people, companies, and Countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong — They are victims of circumstance. This is a Humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran. Many of these Ships are running low on food, and everything else necessary for largescale crews to stay on board in a healthy and sanitary manner.
