NEW: A male is dead and five others are injured after a shooting during an ‘illegal car rally’ in Columbia, Maryland this morning.

At around 5:27am today, Howard County Police were called out to the 6700 block of Alexander Bell Drive for a shooting in a parking garage, The DC MD VA Live reports.

Officers found an adult male shot, who was pronounced dead on scene. A second victim was found shot in the leg.

Four other people self-transported to the hospital over the span of several hours. Everyone who was injured is expected to survive.

Investigators remain on scene and are focusing their investigation on a Dodge Charger hellcat and an older model sedan inside of the parking garage. Roughly 50 evidence markers have been placed down at the scene.

Just after 6 PM, Patrol Officers responded to a call in downtown San José where a female suspect brandished a firearm at a victim before fleeing the scene. With a little help from our ALPR database, K9 Kurt and his trusted handler located the vehicle in a mall parking lot and quickly apprehended the suspect without incident.

Kurt’s trusted snout then led to the discovery of this firearm inside the vehicle. 🐾

The suspect was promptly arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Please, praying for the Sioux Falls Police officer who was shot in the line of duty this afternoon.🙏🏻

South Dakota: A Sioux Falls police officer was shot near 13th and Lyons shortly before 2 p.m. Chief Jon Thum confirms the officer was driven to a hospital by another officer, and is in stable condition.

After the shooting, the suspect left the area. Police initiated a pursuit that concluded near 49th Street and Victoria Avenue.

Two people have been detained as part of the investigation.

NEW: The Detroit Police Department says it’s ramping up its crackdown on drag racing, drifting, and illegal street takeovers across the city.

Speaking to the Detroit City Council last week, Assistant Chief Charles Hayes said the department launched a focused effort in late March, targeting known hotspots. East and west side teams handle enforcement on weekends, while precincts take over during the week, MDN reports.

Police say air support remains a key part of the strategy, and they are also looking into expanding the use of drones to help monitor illegal street racing from above.

Officers are also monitoring social media through their Real Time Crime Center to identify meetup locations, while spotter vehicles patrol the ground.

Drivers involved can face reckless or felonious driving charges. Police say vehicles may be seized through court orders or nuisance abatement, with some taken permanently and auctioned off. Police say spectators at street takeovers can also be ticketed.

DPD is working with the city and considering road design changes like rumble strips and barriers to help prevent racing in known areas.

NEW: A Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department officer was injured in a collision Monday morning due to a vehicle failing to yield to the officer's police cruiser.

Shortly after 11:15 a.m., KCPD said the officer was driving a marked Ford Explorer and was running emergency lights and sirens while heading eastbound on Bannister Road.

As the officer slowed and entered the intersection at Blue Ridge Boulevard, a black Chevrolet Traverse failed to yield.

The Chevrolet struck the police vehicle on its passenger side, causing it to roll over and strike multiple vehicles that were stopped facing westbound on Bannister.

KCPD said the officer and two occupants of the Chevrolet were injured in the collision. All were said to have suffered minor injuries.

Canada: An OPP officer has been killed in a collision on eastbound Highway 401 in Cobourg on Monday, resulting in the highway being completely shut down in both directions.

In a news release, the Ontario Provincial Police said shortly after 5:30 p.m. members of its Northumberland detachment responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Highway 401 near Burnham Street North.

“A member of the OPP was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said.
The officer has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

“The OPP is assisting the member’s family as they deal with this tragedy. We acknowledge the significant impact of this tragic loss and extend our thoughts to everyone affected by this devastating incident,” the force wrote.

The circumstances surrounding this crash remain under investigation.
Currently, Highway 401 is closed in both directions from Highway 28 in Port Hope to Burnham.
