The Aurora Police Department sadly announced the death of Agent Troy Raines who passed away over the weekend after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.

Troy served as a dedicated detective in the Major Crimes Homicide Unit where he tirelessly sought justice for homicide victims and their families. Troy's commitment to the profession of law enforcement was unmatched. What’s more, Troy was never defined by his diagnosis and instead stood as a true example of sacrifice and service to others. This was evident as he continued working homicide cases and serving others until his passing. His love for policing reached far beyond Aurora PD.  Not only was he president of the Brotherhood for the Fallen (CO), he also served a storied career with the Boyton Beach (FL) and Salisbury (MD) police departments. What’s more, Troy served our country as a Military Intelligence Analyst in the United States Army.

Troy meant so much to so many, and he will be remembered for his sharp wit, humor, and candor that always shined through.

Praying for the Gainesville Police officer who was shot in the line of duty overnight.🙏🏻

Georgia: A 24-year-old man accused of shooting a Gainesville police officer during a late-night confrontation was killed after an hourslong standoff that stretched into early Friday morning, authorities said.

Police say the incident began around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when a woman called 911, saying she feared for her life and reporting an armed man. Officers located the caller, who directed them to another home in the Briarwood Drive and Skyline Drive area.
Inside that home, officers found a woman and two children. They were safely removed after the suspect had been allowed inside.
When officers entered the home, Dakota Levi Simmons allegedly opened fire, striking one officer. The officer returned fire, and the suspect moved toward the back of the home, exchanging gunfire with additional officers before barricading himself inside.

The wounded officer was taken to the hospital. A ballistic vest and radio microphone most likely prevented more serious injuries. Three other officers were later treated for elevated heart rates and shock.

An APD Texas officer was injured, and a suspect is in custody, after a police pursuit early Friday morning stretched from south Austin all the way to Cedar Park.

APD says the pursuit began around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning near the intersection of South First Street and Ben White Boulevard.

The pursuit headed west on Ben White Boulevard to Mopac, going north on Mopac into north Austin and then west on US 183 into Williamson County.
Around 2:45 a.m., an officer involved in the pursuit collided with a construction vehicle on US 183 near the 10200 block of Research Boulevard, receiving minor injuries in the crash.

The Roanoke Police Department sadly announced the death of retired Officer Shannon Perry, who passed away following a medical emergency on Monday March 16, 2026

Officer Perry faithfully served the Roanoke community for more than 21 years before retiring in October 2022. During his career with the Roanoke Police Department, he served in numerous roles, including Field Training Officer and Firearms Instructor, and was instrumental in both the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations.

Officer Perry was also a longtime member of the North Tarrant Regional SWAT team, where he served in multiple roles over the years including Operator, Sniper, Sniper Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader, and ultimately Team Leader.  His leadership, experience, and dedication were invaluable to the team and to the department.

Beyond the badge, Officer Perry was known as a trusted teammate, a mentor to many, and a friend to all. His commitment to protecting this community and supporting his fellow officers helped shape the culture of the department and the lives of those around him.

Officer Perry was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, continuing his lifelong commitment to service both in the military and in law enforcement.
