Just beneath this overlook once sat the Pacific Palisades Bowl Mobile Estates β a roughly 170-home mobile community that was destroyed in the Palisades fire.
Now the future of the land is uncertain. Former residents and local officials have pushed for rebuilding the community, while reports say the owners have been quietly marketing the property to investors as a possible redevelopment opportunity.

βProfessing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.β

The NYPD Bomb Squad has conducted a preliminary analysis of a device that was ignited and deployed at a protest yesterday and has determined that it is not a hoax device or a smoke bomb. It is, in fact, an improvised explosive device that could have caused serious injury or death.
Further analysis will be conducted, including on a second device.
Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi were arrested on scene yesterday and are in custody in connection with this matter. The NYPD is working on this investigation with our partners at the U.S. Attorneyβs Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI through our Joint Terrorism Task Force.
I want to again thank the brave members of the NYPD who ran towards the danger without hesitation and quickly apprehended the suspects.

Today (March 8, 2026) marks four years since three Joplin Police officers were shot in the line of duty.
We honor and remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Corporal Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed. We also honor and thank Rick Hirshey for his service to our community.
Cpl. Cooper and Ofc. Reed responded to a disturbance call at a shopping center in the 400 block of Geneva Avenue. While they attempted to take the subject into custody, the man opened fire on them, critically wounding Ofc. Reed and Cpl. Cooper. The man then stole one of their service weapons and a patrol car. He continued firing at pursuing officers until he crashed near the intersection of East 9th Street and Connecticut Avenue. The man proceeded to take cover behind a van and opened fire on Officer Hirshey, who was still inside his patrol car, severely wounding him. The man continued shooting at other responding officers until being fatally wounded by return fire.
Corporal Cooper was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries a short time later. Officer Reed remained on life support until his death after his organs were donated on March 11th, 2022.
As today is the anniversary of Corporal Benjamin Lee Cooperβs passing, we are keeping his family, our police department, and citizens in our prayers as we continue to honor him and his sacrifice.
Corporal Cooper was a U.S Army veteran and had served 19 years in law enforcement, beginning his career with the Joplin Police Department in 2003. Corporal Cooper is survived by his wife and two daughters.
On March 11, we will post in remembrance of the life of Officer Jake Reed.
While we continue to mourn the loss of our brave brothers, we are proud to remember them, honor them, and continue daily to pass on the stories and legacy they left behind at JPD.

Caryn has worked in law enforcement at the city of Pewaukee as a police officer and as a Jefferson County deputy. She was injured on duty in 2003 and shortly after that found a passion in helping animals. In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf, she felt an overwhelming need to go help. Her and her team rescued 135 animals in less than 36 hours and thus Operation Bring Animals Home Search and Rescue Team was born. Her team helps with major disasters and also locally where she rescues animals on a regular basis to find their forever homes. Caryn is an inspiration for her hard work, determination, and desire to make her community a better place. I'm honored to know Caryn! If I am elected as your next State Senator, I pledge to support law enforcement and those vulnerable with the resources they need!
