A Butler County Sheriff's Office , Ohio deputy was stabbed in the back while responding to a car fire Thursday afternoon in Madison Township. Officials say Deputy Mike Farthing was called to the scene around 12:45 p.m. for a vehicle fire. While he was calling for fire crews, a 41-year-old man reportedly approached him from behind and stabbed him through his vest, telling the deputy, βThis is your unlucky day.β Investigators believe the suspect set the vehicle on fire, prompting the deputyβs response. A struggle followed, during which Deputy Farthing was able to hold the suspect at gunpoint as the suspectβs uncle attempted to calm him. The suspect eventually dropped the knife and was taken into custody. Deputy Farthing, who has also served as an EMT with the St. Clair Township/New Miami Life Squad for 32 years, was rushed to Atrium Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.
Please keep Deputy Farthing, his family, and all first responders in your thoughts and prayers.ππ»

Today, we honor fallen Deputy Steven Belanger, who proudly served the Walnut/Diamond Bar jurisdiction, following in his fatherβs footsteps as a second-generation Deputy Sheriff. On December 10, 1994, Deputy Belanger conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle where he was critically shot by a suspect.
The bullet permanently lodged in Deputy Belangerβs brain, drastically changing his quality of life, career, and family.
On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, Deputy Belanger succumbed to his injuries, surviving 23 years after this life altering event. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
In dedication to Deputy Belanger, a memorial wall was erected at Walnut Station one year after his passing. Then Captain Al Reyes spoke about Steveβs bravery and fighting spirit, βIt's a job you choose based on the concept that you can make the world a better place.β
