Corpus Christi, TX β A man has died and three police officers were injured following a shooting and subsequent officer-involved incident Friday afternoon, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 2:47 p.m. to the 4900 block of Ayers Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by Corpus Christi Fire Department to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
At around 3:33 p.m., officers located the suspect vehicle connected to the homicide in the 3100 block of Agnes Street. While officers were detaining the suspect, police say the suspect produced a firearm and began firing. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.
Two officers were shot during the exchange and transported to a local hospital. One officer remains in critical condition, while the second is reported to be in stable condition. A third officer was injured by shrapnel and was treated at the scene by medics.
The suspect, identified as a 38-year-old male, is reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital and remains in custody.
The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy. The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation.
