JUST IN: The Salem Police Department would like to advise the public of police activity in the area of Route 28 and the Methuen City line. Salem Police are assisting several federal agencies with an active and ongoing investigation.

At this time, there is no information indicating an imminent risk to the public or residents of Salem. However, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and exercise heightened caution.

In particular, if you observe any individuals on foot who appear out of place, unfamiliar to the area, or behaving in a manner that seems unusual or suspicious, please report it immediately to the Salem Police Department by calling (603) 893-1911 (non-emergency) or 911 in an emergency.

We are advising residents and onlookers to please avoid the area of Route 28 and the Methuen city line out of respect for the ongoing investigation.

The Oxnard CA Police Department sadly announced the death of retired Oxnard Police Sergeant Joe Bentley's passing who passed away this morning at 11:21 AM at his home in Priest River, Idaho. His family was at his side.

"Joe began his career with Oxnard PD in 2005. He recently retired in September of this year.  During his career, he served as a Reserve Police Officer, Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Unit instructor, storefront officer, Homeless Liaison Officer, Beat Coordinator, and Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit supervisor.  He spent several years serving on our department's Special Enforcement Unit / SWAT Team.  During his last 5+ years with us, Joe was a Patrol Division Sergeant."
