BREAKING NEWS! 'People are shooting each other for food and water': Bahamas Hurricane Dorian death toll will be 'staggering' with THOUSANDS still missing as bodies pile up and militias are formed to stop looting. Up to 70,000 are in need of 'life-saving assistance'โฆ
The Bahamian government has denied claims it is suppressing the Dorian death toll, as the latest official count of just 44 falls well below what residents have reported. Last week Prime Minister Hubert Minnis warned the loss of of life would be 'catastrophic and devastating.' Locals say the latest official figure does not match with the oppressive stench and sight of the dead. But health minister, Duane Sands, told the Miami Herald: 'I am actually a bit concerned that the focus has been for some people the body count. It is not the priority. 'The priority is find those people for their loved ones who are missing them; to take care, provide comfort to those people who are hurt, who are suffering, that's the priority. To put food in people's bellies, water in their throat.' Hundreds or even thousands of people were still missing, officials said, as rescue teams continued their grim retrievals.

Congress returns to Washington this week amid mounting pressure from Democrats and the public to enact new gun restrictions, but lawmakers from both parties say meaningful action hangs solely on President Trump. Since lawmakers were last in session Aug. 2, three mass shootings have killed 38 people and injured many more. The White House is expected to release gun policy proposals that Trump supports, possibly this week. But few gun safety advocates or Democrats are optimistic that the proposals will be as expansive as they want, Los Angeles Times reported.

Rocks from the most pivotal moment in Earth's history were discovered offshore of the Yucatan Peninsula, according to a study released Monday. The finding is "the most detailed look yet into the aftermath of the catastrophe that ended the Age of Dinosaurs," said study lead author Sean Gulick, a research professor at the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics. When the asteroid smashed into the Earth 66 million years ago, the impact ignited wildfires, triggered tsunamis and blasted so much sulfur into the atmosphere that it blotted out the sun, which caused the global cooling that killed off the dinosaurs. The study found hard evidence of this scenario in the hundreds of feet of rocks that filled the impact crater within the first 24 hours after the strike.๐ฅ๐ฆ

September 11, 2001. 7:59 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767 carrying 81 passengers and 11 crew members, departs 14 minutes late from Logan International Airport in Boston, bound for Los Angeles International Airport. Five hijackers are aboard.โฆ
On the eve of the 18th anniversary of the September 11 attacks comes a grim stastic: 241 #NYPD cops have died of illnesses related to their work at the World Trade Center after the tragedy. That's 10 times the number of officers who actually died when the towers came down. 'The unfortunate part is that number continues to grow,' Deputy Commissioner Robert Ganley told ABC News. 'It's heartbreaking. It's very sad. It's sad for the department. It's sad for the families left behind.' Similarly, the FDNY lost 22 members from 9/11-related ailments, and that's only since the last anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on US soil, which claimed almost 3,000 lives. The names of the almost two dozen fire personnel were added to the FDNY World Trade Center Memorial Wall. ๐ฟ
