THAW AND ORDER: A California restaurant was shut down after viral video showed a worker tossing raw meat onto the pavement behind the building.

Health officials say employees claimed they were “trying to thaw” the meat outside due to lack of indoor space — but inspectors also found a cockroach infestation and ordered the restaurant to close until all violations were fixed.

Deputies Rescue Woman from Roof

On November 18, deputies responded to a call in the 6500 block of S. Lisbon Ct. about a woman who had fallen while on a roof. When deputies arrived, they found a 69-year-old woman lying on her back with her legs dangling over the edge as she braced herself on the gutter. Two caretakers were on ladders holding her in place, but feared she would fall.

Deputy Witzman quickly retrieved another ladder, and he and Deputy Bullard climbed onto the roof while Deputy Perez assisted from the ground. Once on the roof, they pulled the woman back from the edge and helped her back inside through a nearby window.

The home was later identified as a host home for adults with dementia and Alzheimer's. The caretakers had been hanging Christmas lights when the woman opened a second-story window, walked out onto the roof, and slipped. Thankfully, she was not injured.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Deputies Witzman, Bullard, and Perez for their quick thinking and teamwork.

Police-themed balloons have floated through the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade since 1947, beginning with the Comical Cop—an endearing character in a Victorian police uniform who became the first law-enforcement-inspired balloon in the parade.

In 2011, Macy’s revived the character as Harold the Policeman for the parade’s 85th anniversary. Harold quickly became a fan favorite, adding holiday cheer while honoring the commitment and service of law enforcement.

Harold officially retired in 2016, but his legacy lives on—reminding us that officers not only protect and serve, but also help bring joy to the communities they love.
