A gunman opened fire on crowds at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California at 5.41pm Sunday. Police Chief Scott Smithee said the suspect was shot dead by police seconds after he began firing a rifle. The police chief confirmed that there were four known fatalities - the three victims and the shooter - and 15 confirmed injuries. Earlier reports indicated that as many as 60 people were injured in the mayhem. Officials are expected to continue their investigation throughout the night and will provide additional information at a news conference Monday morning. Several witnesses reported hearing popping noises and then seeing a white male in his 30s wearing military fatigues 'indiscriminately' spraying the crowd with bullets from a semi-automatic weapon for several minutes. Suspected Boko Haram extremists killed more than 60 people in an attack on villagers leaving a funeral in northeastern Nigeria, a local official said Sunday. It was the deadliest extremist attack against civilians in the region this year.
