But a colourised photo from 1945 shows smiling American and Russian troops celebrating the end of the Second World War. The photo is part of a stunning series that was painstakingly gathered to bring the conflict back to life. Photographer Julius Jääskeläinen from Visby, Sweden, spent countless hours researching, restoring and colouring black and white images from the battle for Europe. 🗿 #history

A surge in the number of sexually transmitted infections has gripped the US military, sparking fears over troops 'readiness' for combat. A shocking report published by the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch found that chlamydia infections, the most common, spiked 56 per cent over the last six years to infect 225 troops per 10,000. The number of gonorrhea cases also shot up 56 per cent for men and 33 per cent for women over the last six years to more than 30 cases per 10,000, while syphilis cases more than tripled from 2 to 6 cases per 10,000.
