A man has been charged after he allegedly punched a NSW police officer in the face and kicked an unmarked police car. Two detectives were travelling in the vehicle when the 40-year-old man allegedly assaulted the driver through an open window at a traffic light in Newcastle's CBD. Police said the officers were preventing the man, who had 'unleashed a violent outburst' towards the occupants of a nearby car on Beaumont Street on Friday morning. The officers blew their siren to get his attention. 'In a response, the male directed his violent behaviour toward the detectives with an unprovoked attack, kicking the police vehicle and punching the driver through an open window,' police said. The incident was captured on dashcam. 👮🏻‍♂️
