The Pentagon sent a report to Congress on the minerals, 80% of which come from China and could be used as a trade war weapon. Chinese state newspaper the People's Daily today again hinted that Beijing will stop exporting essential 'rare earth' minerals to the U.S. in a bid to pressure Donald Trump in a trade war. Chinese President Xi Jinping visited a rare earth company in southern China last week, sparking speculation of Beijing’s possible retaliation on Washington with the natural resources. China accounted for 80 per cent of rare earth imports between 2014 and 2017 to the United States. The group of 17 elements are used in various objects, including hospital scanners, nuclear power stations and LED lights. #trade_war
