The rotund rodent (pictured) was spotted by two girls in the town of Bensheim, Germany, on Sunday afternoon who then called the emergency services. Nine firefighters and animal rescuers arrived at the scene to prise the chubby rat from the tight squeeze. When rescuers arrived they were greeted by the flabby animal wriggling and squeaking in the manhole cover, trying to free itself from the tiny gap. A firefighter used an animal capture noose to grab hold of the rat as other rescuers lifted up the cover with crowbars. They managed to free the struggling the distressed creature by wedging the manhole cover open to push the rat through. As the cover was pulled up, the rat's dangling legs and tail could been in a video taken by firefighters. Once the rodent was freed, the firefighters dropped it back down the sewer. 😂 #facepalm
