LASD HQ: Early Thursday morning, a Lomita Station deputy in Rancho Palos Verdes conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for tinted windows and failing to signal. Upon contacting the driver, the deputy saw narcotics paraphernalia and detained the driver pending a narcotics investigation. During a search of the driver’s vehicle, the deputy located explosive compounds, and explosive device components such as ball bearings (often used in improvised explosive devices), and several homemade radio-controlled detonators. LASD Arson Explosives Detail from Special Enforcement Bureau responded to the scene and rendered the materials safe, confirming the components were, in fact, all the ingredients necessary to construct an explosive device. A check of the suspect’s criminal history revealed he was a felon, previously convicted of robbery. The suspect was arrested for being in possession of bomb making equipment and federal authorities were also alerted to the arrest.

Los Angeles — The push to reopen schools got another shove Friday as California health officials released an interactive map tracking the status of campus reopenings. The Safe Schools Reopening Map gives snapshot of where schools have reopened. Delving further into the map reveals data about the types of schools that have reopened, their safety plans, and in the future, if they have partnered with the Valencia Branch Lab for COVID-19 testing and any outbreaks reported in each district. It was developed in partnership with county offices of education and the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence. The map of Southern California currently shows Orange County with the largest number of campus reopenings, which include middle and high schools. Several districts in Ventura County have also reopened. Most schools in Los Angeles County have not reopened, with the exception of districts in La Cañada Flintridge, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo Beach.

Actress Gina Carano, who was dropped from the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” and was banned from future “Star Wars” projects, has a new gig.

Gina Carano, who exited the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” and was banned from future “Star Wars” projects, has found a new home at pundit Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire. The actress will develop and produce her own film at the conservative news outlet, which announced it is branching out into entertainment content.

“This is just the beginning .. welcome to the rebellion,” the actress wrote Friday on social media as she retweeted Shapiro’s tweet promoting the new venture.

“I cried out and my prayer was answered,” Carano told Deadline Friday, praising Daily Wire for making her filmmaking dream come true. “I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same.

Gina Carano February: “We’re looking forward to taking on the authoritarian Hollywood monolith,” Daily Wire co-founder Shapiro said Friday in a statement to The Times. “It’s no secret that Hollywood is a one-party town, and that dissent is not just discouraged but punished. We’re building the alternative, and we’d just like to thank Disney and Lucasfilm for aiding us in our quest to do so.”

Carano did not respond Friday to a request for comment.

BREAKING! The office of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed Friday the contents of a recording that shows the governor and his team withheld from state legislators the true number of coronavirus deaths at New York nursing homes, out of fear it could be used against them by the Trump administration, ABC News reported. The governor's top aide, Melissa DeRosa, confirmed the contents of the recording of a September conference call with Democratic state legislators, first reported by the New York Post, in which she admits that the governor's office withheld the numbers due to concerns they would "be used against us" by the Justice Department under then-President Donald Trump. The figures were ultimately revealed last month as part of an investigation into COVID-19 nursing home deaths by the office of New York Attorney General Tish James. Sources tell ABC News that Albany lawmakers will begin discussing whether to strip Cuomo of some his coronavirus emergency powers in the aftermath of the revelation.
