Oregon’s law decriminalizing small amounts of all street drugs went into effect on Monday — making it the first state in the nation to enact such a measure. Those found with personal-use amounts of drugs — including heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, oxycodone and ecstasy — will now face a $100 fine instead of a criminal charge. Known as Measure 110, the legislation was overwhelmingly approved by state voters in November. It focuses on providing drug users with treatment through newly funded addiction recovery centers. The law was not without opposition. Two dozen district attorneys argued it would lead to the normalization of dangerous drugs. In 1973, the state became the first in the nation to decriminalize marijuana. Then, in 2014, recreational marijuana became legal in Oregon.

DC -- Investigators have made a preliminary determination that the police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt during the U.S. Capitol protest shouldn’t be charged with any crimes in connection with her death, according to people familiar with the review. Ms. Babbitt, who served for more than a dozen years in the Air Force and Air National Guard and became a passionate supporter of former President Donald Trump, died from being shot by a Capitol Police officer after protesters smashed through a door to the Speaker’s Lobby on Jan. 6. She had entered the building as part of a crowd aiming to disrupt the certification of President Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election. The officer who shot her had been placed on leave soon after the riot while Ms. Babbitt’s death was being investigated, including on the question of whether it was a violation of her civil rights, the Wall Street Journal reported. #JusticeForAshli

BREAKING! Multiple FBI agents shot after serving a warrant in a child exploitation case in Sunrise, Florida.
A dispute over shoveling snow turned deadly when a man fatally shot his two neighbors before taking his own life in Pennsylvania, authorities said. Jeffrey Spaide, 47, shot dead his across-the-street neighbors, James Goy, 50, and his wife Lisa, 48, as they were clearing snow Monday morning in Plains Township, The Citizen’s Voice reported. “Apparently there’s been an ongoing dispute between neighbors, some of which involved a dispute about snow disposal and removal,” Luzerne County First Assistant District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce said. “They’re across the street from each other, and when they would remove snow they would throw it across the street at the other person’s property.” After slaughtering the couple, Spaide then went back inside his home and grabbed an AR-15-style rifle, authorities said. “He retrieved the rifle and shot them again,” Plains Twp. police Sgt. Michael Smith told the paper. Police said Spaide then went back inside his home and used a third rifle to kill himself.
