WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department -- Critical Incident Briefing - Deputy Involved #Shooting -Transit Service Bureau - 062820
San Francisco -- Along the Central Coast, California's scenic Highway 1 is closed 20 miles south of Big Sur after a section of the roadway collapsed when the cliffside below gave way amid torrential rain. Photos of the highway show a huge piece of the road missing, with both the north and southbound lanes washed away. Caltrans spokesperson Jim Shivers said the damage to the highway is called a slip out. "It's where we lose a part of the highway and now we're facing a project to clean and repair that stretch," Shivers said. "This is the only location we're aware of where this happened in the storm. Our maintenance team is patrolling the highway now to look for other damage." Shivers said it's unknown when the road will be reopened, but engineers are assessing the situation and should have more information later today.
The Pentagon will begin distributing COVID-19 vaccines to Guantanamo Bay detainees, including Al Qaeda terrorists and 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, as early as next week, officials have confirmed. Prosecutor Clayton Trivett Jr, who's leading the case against five terrorists behind the September 11 attacks, made the disclosure in a letter to defense lawyers Thursday. '[A]n official in the Pentagon has just signed a memo approving the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine to the detainee population Guantánamo,' he wrote, according to the New York Times. The shots will be administered on a 'voluntary basis' as per Pentagon policy, which requires the recipient's consent on treatment that has not been fully approved by the FDA. The vaccine rollout comes amid a shortage of doses that have hampered inoculation efforts across the US, where only 26million Americans have been vaccinated.

University of Wisconsin-Madison's police chief has banned officers from using "Thin Blue Line" imagery while on duty. Chief Kristen Roman informed officers of the ban in a Jan. 15 email that was made public this week. The department faced criticism in November over a photo posted to its Twitter account that showed a "Thin Blue Line" flag displayed at the police department's office. The "Thin Blue Line" flag, which resembles an American flag but has a blue stripe, is a sign of support for law enforcement but has also come to signal opposition to the looters and criminals from BLM movement and a symbol support for the Blue Lives Matter cause. Roman said that visible public displays of "Thin Blue Line" imagery — flags, pins, bracelets, notebooks, coffee mugs and decals — are not allowed while on duty. She said there would be exceptions for event-specific displays such as line-of-duty death observances.
