An alleged drunk driver slammed into the famed arch at Washington Square Park early Sunday — injuring an NYPD officer who was parked under the landmark, law enforcement sources said. Both the officer and the driver suffered non-life-threatening head injuries in the dramatic crash, sources said. The officer’s back and neck were also hurt, sources said. The driver was left unharmed enough to stumble from his wreck, blood dripping from his nose, and shout “Suck my d—” at a New York Post photographer. But while the driver’s Nissan Maxima was totaled, the officer’s vehicle — a subcompact “Smart Car” — was relatively unscathed. And the Nineteenth Century marble arch was undamaged. The crash happened on the north end of the Greenwich Village park just before 2 a.m.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has “lost all control” as more than a hundred anti-lockdown protesters were arrested in London demonstrating against the government’s strict COVID response, according to Rowan Dean. Britain will head into a three-tiered lockdown system after its four-week lockdown ends on December 2 as the country continues to battle against a second wave of the pandemic. Hundreds of protesters hit the streets of London over the weekend against the prime minister’s lockdowns with many clashing against the police. Sky News host Rowan Dean said the government’s response to this second wave is “really disturbing stuff”. “Boris Johnson has lost all control,” he said. “He seems to have lost the plot completely."

An unoccupied orange SUV was found swallowed by a sinkhole in Queens. The vehicle, a Toyota RAV4, was discovered nose-down in the massive sinkhole at about 6 a.m. on 70th Street near 52nd Avenue in Maspeth, authorities said. The FDNY said they responded to the location for reports of trauma. But it was determined there were no patients as the SUV was unoccupied. The sinkhole led to several street closures in the area, Holden said.
The owner of a barbecue restaurant in Canada remained open during the coronavirus pandemic, and defied government lockdown orders. Adam Skelly, the owner of Adamson Barbecue in Etobicoke, was arrested on Thursday and dragged away in handcuffs in front of a crowd that gathered to show support of his defiance of coronavirus. After allegedly being detained for over 30 hours, Skelly was released on $50,000 bail. Skelly claims that one of the conditions for release was that he is not permitted to use social media. Toronto Police Supt. Dom Sinopoli justified Skelly's arrest by saying, "We have formed a baseline as to how Mr. Skelly chooses to operate. We have now cautioned him up until today that our enforcement will progress and it did." Skelly's next court appearance will be on Jan. 4.
