A major police operation is underway in Montreal’s Mile-End neighbourhood after reports of a hostage situation at Ubisoft offices located at the intersection of St-Laurent Boulevard and St-Viateur Avenue. Police have cordoned off the area and are asking people to stay away. Video posted to social media shows officers pulling out their weapons and seeking cover behind a patrol car. Police have yet to release any details surrounding the possible hostage-taking, saying they are waiting to validate information. This is a developing story.
At least 50 people are being held hostage on the roof of the Ubisoft building on St. Laurent near St. Viateur. Montreal police say there have so far been no injuries reported at the building where Ubisoft's offices are located, and where a hostage situation is currently unfolding. According to TVA, a daycare on the premises has been barricaded.

A Georgia judge denied bond Friday for the father and son charged with murder in the February slaying of Ahmaud Arbery. Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley said he’s concerned that Gregory McMichael and his adult son, Travis McMichael, took the law into their own hands and endangered neighbors when they pursued the 25-year-old Black man with guns and shot him in a residential street. Defense attorneys say the McMichaels had reason to suspect Arbery was a burglar and Travis McMichael was defending himself when he shot Arbery in the port city of Brunswick. An investigator testified previously that a third defendant, who took cellphone video of the shooting, heard Travis McMichael, 34, utter a racial slur after he blasted Arbery three times with a shotgun. They weren’t arrested until the cellphone video of the shooting leaked online and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the case. Prosecutors say Arbery was merely out jogging.
A homeless man was arrested for arson after a small brush fire ignited Friday morning in Malibu just off the Pacific Coast Highway near Tuna Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. and burned roughly an acre-and-a-half in the 18900 block of PCH. Fire authorities said the fire was moving uphill and with heavy fuel. Just before 8 a.m., the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station said the eastbound lanes of the PCH had reopened. About 45 minutes later, the remaining roadways in the area were reopened, according to the sheriff's department and the California Highway Patrol. The flames were confronted from the ground and the air, and after about an hour, the fire department reported that the fire's forward progress was stopped. No structures were damaged.
Montreal police say no threat has been detected as a major police operation continues in a neighbourhood north of downtown Montreal, near the offices of video-game maker Ubisoft. In an earlier tweet police said the operation was triggered by a 911 call. They said there were no reports of injuries and specialized officers were inspecting the premises. Tactical squad officers and an armoured vehicle could be seen around the building on St-Laurent Boulevard in the city’s Mile End neighbourhood, and at least three ambulances were standing by. Hugo Lefevre, who works at Ubisoft, said he had just returned from lunch when a rumour started spreading through the building that there was a potential hostage situation in the building. He said at first he thought it might be a prank, but then he was met at the door by police with weapons drawn. “It doesn’t feel real,” he said. He said he had been in contact with colleagues inside the building who were with police and safe.
