One of the Black Lives Matter protesters who allegedly assaulted and tried to rob a dog-walker who confronted them near Central Park late last month surrendered to cops this week. Desmond Marrero, 25, was part of a group of Black Lives Matter protesters at the corner of Central Park West and West 67th Street on the Upper West Side around 3:20 p.m. Oct. 24, police said. The group was chanting, “Whose streets? Our streets?” when a 40-year-old man walking his dog nearby responded that he believed the streets were “everybody’s streets,” police said. That prompted the protesters to surround him — one of them punching him in the head and pushing him to the ground, police said. While the victim was on the ground, two others allegedly punched and stomped on him. Another protester tried to snatch his phone. The victim, who suffered minor injuries, refused medical attention on the scene.

BEIJING - China became one of the last major countries to congratulate Joe Biden, who is expected to make few changes to U.S. policy in conflicts with Beijing over trade, technology and security. China, along with Russia, avoided joining the throng that congratulated Biden last weekend after he and vice presidential running mate Kamala Harris secured enough Electoral College votes to unseat President Donald Trump. “We respect the choice of the American people,” said a foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin. “We congratulate Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris.” Wang gave no reason for the delay but said, “the result will be confirmed according to U.S. laws and procedures.” U.S.-Chinese relations have plunged to their lowest level in decades amid a tariff war over Beijing's technology ambitions and trade surplus, accusations of spying and tension over human rights, the coronavirus pandemic, Hong Kong and control of the South China Sea.
