The world's smallest business jet, Flaris LAR 1, is worth a whopping $2million. The mini plane, which Iron Maiden frontman - Bruce Dickinson - is reportedly keen to buy, took flight for the first time in Poland. Reports say the plane only needs 100 metres of runway and is able to reach an altitude of 5,900 feet in one minute. The aircraft also has detachable wings to help with storage. #future

Self-driving delivery vehicles may be getting closer to becoming a reality, but Ford believes there's one leg of the process that could be further solved by robots. Ford's autonomous delivery robot is capable of lifting packages that weigh 40lbs, so it can deliver your pizza, Amazon package or groceries straight to your doorstep. 😳 #wow #future

US-based firm Alaka'i Technologies revealed its Skai vehicle which is inspired by current drones and powered by hydrogen fuel cells. It can take off and land vertically and has a range of 400 miles. The passenger-carrying model of the Skai was unveiled this week near Los Angeles which also says the vehicles could be used as cargo carriers and ambulances of the sky as well as taxis. 😳 #future
Dutch airline KLM are funding a pioneering aeronautical project which could see the shape and layout of commercial aeroplanes changed forever. The stunning 'Flying-V' design, financially backed by KLM, has the same wingspan as existing planes and is able to carry up to 314 passengers. It is named after the iconic Gibson Flying-V electric guitar used by a number of legendary players - from Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix, to Brian May and Keith Richards. The concept craft, developed by researchers at Delft Technology University in the Netherlands, flares diagonally backwards from it nose to create the striking V-shape. Its designers say this unique configuration uses 20 per cent less fuel. The wings would host the passenger space, cargo hold, fuel tanks and all other infrastructure, it is believed. ✈️ #wow #future

'Puncture-proof' AIRLESS tires that are cheaper, more durable and better for the environment than traditional versions may be available to buy in just five years. The design was unveiled in Montreal at the Movin'On transport summit and the firm claims it could also be 3D printed and would be more sustainable, cheaper and likely to improve fuel economy. GM and Michelin say the punctures and blow-outs will be a non-concern and the inability to over or under inflate them means they will have a longer lifespan. #future
US weapons manufacturer Raytheon and Northrop Grumman are developing a hypersonic missile that can travel at 4,600mph with an engine made by a 3D printer. The project will utilise Northrop's scramjet engine technology, which uses the vehicle's high speed to forcibly compress incoming air before combustion to enable sustained flight at hypersonic speeds. 🚀 #wow #future #science

California police have deployed a RoboCop style machine onto the streets to fight crime by monitoring and surveiling streets and parks. Dubbed the 'HP Robocop', it was unveiled this week by the Huntington Park police department to 'keep a watchful eye on the public'. Described as an 'autonomous data machine', it is equipped with 360-degree video cameras, which will then be able to relay video footage to human police. It will beam this data to police headquarters in order to facilitate fast and safe responses from police officers. 👮🏻‍♂️ #future

A roadmap for colonising the galaxy is brought to life in a mesmerising animation that plots paths for future humanity's ships as they take settlers out among the stars. The model shows all the individual journeys that would be needed for a methodical series of migrations by giant colony vessels to 100,000 habitable star systems. Developed by Chinese experts, the simulation won a NASA competition to solve a 'nearly-impossible' mathematical puzzle of interplanetary trajectory design. #future
Chinese state media have revealed the first sketches of a type of 'green' supersonic passenger plane the country is developing. An engineer claimed that his team had made breakthrough achievements in design of the environmental friendly aircraft. The prototype of the plane is due to conduct its first flight around 2035, the researcher told state broadcaster CCTV. ✈️ #future

Japanese electronics maker NEC has unveiled its 'flying car' - a large drone-like machine with four propellers which could be available by the 2030s. The test flight saw it hover steadily for about a minute ten feet above the ground inside a gigantic cage designed to protect onlookers watching at an NEC facility in a Tokyo suburb. The preparations such as the repeated checks on the machine and warnings to reporters to wear helmets took up more time than the two brief demonstrations. #future

Russia's pioneering humanoid robot Fedor has started assisting astronauts on board the International Space Station. Video footage reveals the six-foot tall robot holding a towel and a drill before handing the power tool to an astronaut. The robot was sent into space to learn new skills so that it and others like it can carry out dangerous operations instead of astronauts, such as space walks. Fedor, the nickname of the pioneering robot, stands at six foot tall, weighs 353 pounds and can perform complex movements by mimicking a human on Earth. Roscosmos hopes it will help astronauts carry out tasks remotely. 🤖 #future

A new Concorde-style supersonic passenger jet could slash flight times to Australia in half within the next decade. The X-59 Quiet Supersonic Technology aircraft is being built by Lockheed Martin - assisted by NASA - to perfect quiet sonic booms that would allow the plane to go supersonic over land. Concord, which was last flown in 2003, could not fly over land due to a powerful sonic boom that broke the sound barrier. #future
The use of robots in the workplace has more than doubled in just 12 years, studies have found. Now a new interactive map provides more detail into this 'robot exposure' by highlighting the top 10 metropolitan areas threatened by this machine takeover – California being listed as number one. In addition to areas most at risk, experts found that automation is displacing younger, less-educated and minority workers at the highest rates. Los Angeles, Long Beach and Santa Ana, California were ranked number one, followed by Chicago, Naperville and Joliet in Illinois. Dockworkers in Los Angeles have been recently replaced by unmanned electric vehicles to transport shipping containers around the largest port terminal in the US – it was once done by humans in diesel trucks. And many manufacturers in Chicago are adopting machine help over human workers. #future
