Here comes the SNOW from the Northwest through the Great Lakes. Travel will be dangerous with not only snow but a mix of freezing rain, and windy conditions. Above average temps and wildfire danger continues for the rest of the West, and we're watching the tropics too!
SANTIAGO, CHILE - Tens of thousands of Chileans gathered in the central square of Santiago to mark the one-year anniversary of mass protests that left over 30 dead and thousands injured, with peaceful rallies on Sunday devolving by nightfall into riots and looting, Reuters reported. The demonstrations, while largely peaceful early on, were marred by increasing incidents of violence, looting of supermarkets and clashes with police across the capital later in the day. Fire truck sirens, burning barricades on roadways and fireworks on downtown streets added to a sense of chaos in some neighborhoods. Interior Minister Victor Perez spoke late in the evening, praising the early, peaceful rallies while blasting the late-night mayhem. He called on Chileans to settle their differences by voting in the upcoming Oct. 25 constitutional referendum.

BREAKING: A powerful earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean south of the Alaska Peninsula on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The 7.5-magnitude earthquake prompted the National Tsunami Center to issue a tsunami warning for south Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula. "SOUTH ALASKA AND THE ALASKA PENINSULA, Pacific coasts from Kennedy Entrance, Alaska (40 miles SW of Homer) to Unimak Pass, Alaska (80 miles NE of Unalaska)," the National Tsunami Center said in a bulletin. "For other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America, the level of tsunami danger is being evaluated." The epicenter of the earthquake was about 55 miles southeast of Sand Point and about 25 miles deep, according to the USGS. The earthquake "was felt widely in Sand Point, Chignik, Unalaska, Manokotak, South Naknek, and the Kenai Peninsula," according to the Alaska Earthquake Center.
The ‘New Yorker’ suspended staff writer Jeffrey Toobin after the CNN analyst reportedly showed his penis on a Zoom conference call. According to VICE, Toobin “exposed himself during a Zoom call last week between members of the New Yorker and WNYC radio.” Toobin appeared to confess to the incident, calling it a “stupid mistake.” “I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers,” Toobin said. “I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video.” CNN did not reprimand Tooblin, saying in a statement, “Jeff Toobin has asked for some time off while he deals with a personal issue, which we have granted.” 🙈
