Phoenix Police Department: Critical Incident Briefing: August 18, 2020 Siesta Lane Death Investigation. A man died while receiving assistance from a school resource officer. His core body temperature was 108 degrees. He was wandering around a school parking lot near 28th St. & Union Hills running into cars, fencing and oncoming traffic. The man was not arrested but was placed in handcuffs for his safety. The Phoenix Fire Department responded, rushing the man to the hospital where he died. The cause of death has not been determined by the Medical Examiner. Release of available video and audio within 14 days of a critical incident is part of our commitment to transparency. The officers involved in this incident are assigned as school resource officers, and do not have body worn cameras due to the sensitive nature of their work in schools with minor children.
