MADISON โ€” Gov. Tony Evers today signed Executive Order #86 declaring a state of emergency following protests in communities across Wisconsin. Executive Order #86 proclaims a state of emergency in Wisconsin, directs state agencies to continue assisting the state response, and calls to state active duty additional elements of the Wisconsin National Guard to support first responders and protect critical infrastructure and cultural institutions. The state of emergency declaration comes as earlier today Gov. Evers released a statement regarding protests in Wisconsin last night.

Jacob Blakeโ€™s father asked if he has confidence in justice: โ€œI don't have confidence in anybody that is white. That is doing an investigation about a black young man that was shot 7 times in his back &amp haven't come up with an answer or a commentโ€”At this point, it's not welcome."

Atlanta Police Department: Keys in Unattended Vehicle.
MAINE โ€” Police in the city of Waterville were responding to an active shooting incident Tuesday evening. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured. The Waterville police department posted the following information on their Facebook page: "We are dealing with an incident in the area of College Avenue and Highwood Street involving a subject actively discharging a firearm. We have the area contained, but are asking people to avoid the area. We have Waterville, Oakland, Fairfield, Maine State Police and others working to bring this incident to a successful resolution. There will be a media staging area at the Waterville Police Department and we would ask that media seeking footage of the event not attempt to pass the outer perimeter roadblock at College Avenue and Hazelwood Street. Media inquiries should not be addressed to the emergency dispatchers as they are very busy. Chief Massey will arrange a briefing as soon as possible."

The death penalty case against Nikolas Cruz in the 2018 massacre at a Florida high school remains in limbo. At a brief hearing Tuesday, no decisions were made on a trial date amid continuing obstacles because of the coronavirus pandemic. Cruz's defense lawyers say they have almost no access to him in jail, nor do defense experts they insist must see him to build a case. "We're in a worldwide pandemic. It's just not safe to be doing that right now," said defense attorney Melisa McNeill in the hearing, held remotely. "All of that, unfortunately, is on hold." Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz said his office is ready for trial but added that they must await the filing of various anticipated defense motions. That is one of the issues interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Cruz, 21, is charged with killing 17 people and wounding 17 others during a Valentine's Day 2018 rampage with an AR-15 rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Japan's Nagashiki Shipping, which owns the bulk carrier that ran aground on a reef in Mauritius and caused a large oil spill, said it has completed scuttling of the front part of the vessel as instructed by local authorities. The shipping company will continue planning with local authorities and specialists on the removal of the remaining part of the carrier from the reef, it said in a statement.
