Police defunding debate plays out at rally in front of Seattle City Hall. An ongoing debate about whether to “defund” the Seattle Police Department by redirecting much of its budget to social services and community-based solutions played out Saturday morning in City Hall’s front plaza as opponents rallied against the idea and proponents also made their voices heard.

IONIA COUNTY, Michigan -- A 33-year-old state police trooper critically injured in a July 10 head-on crash near Saranac has died. State police late Friday, July 31, said that Trooper Caleb Starr had died at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. He was critically injured when a vehicle headed east on Grand River Avenue, west of Nash Highway, crossed the center line and collided with Starr’s westbound cruiser. The crash happened about 10 p.m. About a week after the crash, police said they believed alcohol was a contributing factor on the part of the other driver, a Utah woman who also was critically injured. Starr is survived by his wife, Rachael, and their two daughters, ages 5 and 2. The family lives in Mason. A GoFundMe page established to help the Starr family had raised almost $47,000.

Richmond Police Department: At approximately 11:15 p.m. yesterday, RPD officers were approached by a victim at Allen Avenue and Broad Street who stated someone had fired shots into their vehicle near the Circle following an altercation. Around the same time, officers received several calls for random gunfire near the Circle in the 1600 block of Monument Avenue. When officers arrived, one of the callers stated the glass door at their residence was shattered by reported gunfire. “Gunfire and violent behavior is not peaceful, nonviolent protest; it is criminal, unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our city,” said Chief Gerald M. Smith. “The City of Richmond will take all necessary steps to protect residents and visitors and preserve peace and public safety in our communities.” Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000. Attached are photos of the vehicle that was shot at and the firearm and magazines recovered.

Florida man clings to the hood of a semi truck driving down an interstate for NINE MILES before troopers intercept vehicle. It looked like a scene from a Hollywood action flick. A bloodied motorist was filmed hanging on for dear life to the hood of a semi-trailer truck that was driving at high speed northbound on the Florida Turnpike near Boynton on Saturday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. #WTF
Heavily armed rival groups faced off against each other in Austin on Saturday night - one week on from the shooting death of BLM supporter Garrett Foster. Members of the far-right Boogaloo Boys were seen creating an intimidating presence at his memorial on Saturday evening. Austin Police were on high alert Saturday night as heavily-armed rival groups faced off in the city. The Austin Police Department feared tensions would explode by nightfall, and bolstered their forces accordingly. The Department released a statement saying they called in extra cops and state troopers to help protect both people and property. Meanwhile, police also issued a warning to locals living in the downtown area to be 'on guard' amid rumors activists could break into high-rise residential buildings and stage rallies from rooftops. Two police helicopters were reported to be circling over the city at 8pm.
